Description The School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies is pleased to invite applications for a tenure‑track Academic Faculty in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Hofstra University. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies welcomes applications in Physician Assistant faculty.
The Hofstra Northwell Department of Physician Assistant Studies’ mission is to create an interprofessional environment that fosters PA leaders and scholars who deliver empathetic, patient‑centered care, and promote inclusivity to the diverse populations they serve.
Teaching Responsibilities
Provide dual‑degree, didactic year, clinical year and/or research semester instruction. Courses in the PA program are offered, and required, during the Fall, Spring and Summer terms.
Instruct and assess students in courses such as physical examination and diagnostic modalities courses, correlative medicine, structure lab, simulation activities, and summative exams.
Proctor examinations.
Identify students with performance deficiencies and develop strategies to address deficiencies including remediation exercises.
Act as a liaison to core faculty for college resources, textbooks, and teaching materials.
Update instructional materials on learning management systems (e.g. Canvas). Assure course materials are posted.
Coordinate selected courses:
Monitor and revise syllabi
Coordinate instructional sessions
Create, update, change, distribute, monitor, and grade student assignments and assessments
Develop instruments to monitor overall efficacy of didactic courses
Testing instruments reflecting course objectives
Validation and standardization of testing instruments
Curriculum adherence to national and state accreditation requirements
Other related responsibilities as determined by the program director.
Faculty Program Responsibilities
Participate in program committees.
Actively participate in School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies governance.
Develop scholarly projects.
Participate in faculty development and in the Physician Assistant Education Association.
Represent the PA Department in university‑wide and community admissions events and other activities as required.
Serve as a reviewer and evaluator in the selection of applicants as a member of the program’s Admission Committee.
Provide academic counseling to students.
Participate in curriculum development, design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the program.
Assure availability of remediation.
Actively participate in:
The development, review, and revision of the program mission.
The development, review, and revision of program goals and competencies.
Supporting student performance.
Duties necessary for program maintenance of accreditation.
Attend, participate in, and prepare for all student orientation sessions.
Attend, prepare for, and participate in all faculty, end‑of‑semester, student‑faculty, retreat, and all other departmental meetings.
Other related responsibilities as determined by the program director.
Supplemental Administrative Duties of Academic Coordinator
Work with other academic coordinators to review and update the student handbook annually.
Co‑coordinate and conduct the annual “student orientation”.
Be responsible for:
The summative evaluation process.
The overall coordination of the didactic year academic scheduling.
Assist with processing course‑related data and analyze course‑related data.
Communicate with all faculty to ensure objectives are communicated and consistency is preserved.
Assure students are registered.
Coordinate selected courses as outlined above.
Note: The duties and responsibilities of the Academic Coordinator portion of this role are conducted by the incumbent once having been approved via supplemental administrative appointment. Supplemental administrative appointments are issued, and up for renewal or discontinuation, each academic year. Compensation for all duties and responsibilities performed by supplemental administrative appointments is via stipend in addition to the base salary of the incumbent.
Qualifications
Must hold a current Physician Assistant license in New York State and be certified.
Has a minimum of a master’s degree in physician assistant studies, public health, health professions education, or a related field.
Has knowledge of, and commitment to, the physician assistant profession.
Must have a willingness to participate in a collective faculty process.
Preferred Quals Summary
3-5 years of faculty experience in a Physician Assistant program.
Earned research doctorate.
Special Instructions

Salary/Salary Range $110,000-$140,000+ salary plus $8,000 stipend.
