Salary Recruitment Range: $56,906 - $78,246

Salary Grade: NC17

Position Details This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Insurance trusts its employees to be self‑motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

Mission of the Department of Insurance To promote a stable insurance market through unbiased regulation and to protect the lives and property of every citizen in all 100 counties while fostering superior, user‑friendly service, courtesy, and respect.

Primary Purpose of the Position The primary purpose of this position is to monitor troubled or potentially troubled insurers and other entities assigned to, and regulated by, the Regulatory Actions Section, and to assist in the rehabilitation or liquidation of entities subject to formal delinquency proceedings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Working knowledge of financial statements, ratios, and the impact of journal entries on financial statement components.

Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge effectively with applicable information technology software and systems.

Detailed understanding of insurance concepts.

Working knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), testing methods, generally accepted and statutory accounting principles (GAAP & SSAP), and financial analysis procedures.

Ability to determine compliance with applicable standards, principles, laws, and regulations.

Ability to apply knowledge independently.

Time‑management skills to ensure projects are completed timely.

Ability to develop recommendations, document findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Effective verbal and written communication with the general public, Department management, and regulated entities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited college or university, with the appropriate courses in accounting as defined in 21 NCAC 8A.0309 and other courses required to qualify as a candidate for the uniform certified public accountant examination, based on the examination requirements in effect at the time of graduation, and two years of experience in auditing insurance company operations or closely related accounting or auditing work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
