Landscape Pest Control Operator Filing Deadline: Thu 12/4/2025
Description Under supervision, perform pest control work in landscaped areas and related facilities. Responsibilities include identifying and eradicating noxious animals, insects, plant diseases, and weed conditions for campus grounds; selecting and mixing sprays and chemicals; determining application sites; applying fungicides and herbicides to ornamental plants, roads, walks, lawns, and water areas; trapping rats and mice; maintaining knowledge of chemicals and control techniques; ordering, preparing, and storing chemicals; and maintaining pest control equipment.
Qualifications
One year of experience in landscape and pest control work. Must acquire a Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) within 1 year of employment.
Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic/numerical calculations; skill to calibrate spray equipment.
Demonstrated experience maintaining plant material; solid understanding of cultural requirements, pests, diseases, and ability to identify undesirable plant material.
Experience and knowledge using appropriate landscape IPM control methods per species, environmental conditions, and situations.
Experience in pest control to identify landscape pest infestations in early stages.
Knowledge of pest control laws and regulations regarding chemical application; knowledge of toxic chemicals.
Knowledge to interpret and understand labels and MSD; skill with mechanical equipment to start and check for possible problems prior to starting; mechanical knowledge to avoid damage to equipment.
Experience safely operating pest control equipment and tools; skill to perform tasks using excellent safety practices.
Skill to mix, load, and apply category I, II, and III pesticides.
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact effectively at all levels; ability to interact positively in a multicultural environment.
Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and ability to follow through on assignments.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; problem solving skills and sound judgment.
Ability to perform heavy, physically demanding work for lengthy and continuous periods of time.
Computer skills to manage work assignments, track schedules, check email, enter time and material data, and prepare technical reports.
Skill to handle emergency situations, knowledge of appropriate emergency departments, and how to contact them.
Ability to wear a full‑face air‑purifying respirator and protective clothing for up to thirty minutes; may require use of respirator and protective clothing.
Ability to work alone.
Ability to wear clean uniform and appropriate footwear.
Demonstrates competency, commitment, and ability to model and advocate principles of community.
Special Conditions
Must have a license in pest control work by the California Department of Pesticide Regulations – Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC). Higher license preferred.
Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on background check results.
Required to hold a valid driver’s license and have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
DMV check and clearance required prior to hire.
Must be physically able to perform all essential functions.
May be required to work overtime as operationally necessary.
Pay Transparency Act: Annual Full Pay Range: $48,588 – $70,721 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%). Hourly Equivalent: $23.27 – $33.87. Factors in determining compensation include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business needs.
