About the role Techno is seeking a highly experienced
Director or Senior Manager of Finance
—a foundational hire who will build and lead the company’s finance function. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role offers unmatched executive visibility and the chance to influence both strategy and operations at a critical stage of growth.
You will be responsible for establishing and overseeing all financial disciplines, including strategic finance, accounting, FAR-based reporting, billing, compliance, and systems optimization. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with deep experience in AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) and a strong command of city/state-funded project accounting in the Tri-State area.
What you'll do Strategic Finance & Executive Leadership
Serve as a key advisor to the CEO and executive leadership on all financial matters
Build and lead annual planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Provide financial models, KPIs, and business insights to support growth strategy
Prepare board-level reports and help shape long-term investment and hiring decisions
Accounting, Reporting & Compliance
Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, reconciliations, and monthly/annual close
Ensure accurate preparation of FAR-compliant financials for government-funded contracts, while maintaining GAAP-based internal statements for management and auditors
Implement and maintain internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance (federal, state, and local)
Lead all external financial audits, tax filings, and financial disclosures
Own the full lifecycle of project billing and cost reporting—from time entry to client invoicing
Collaborate closely with project managers to ensure timely, accurate billing and cost tracking
Standardize WIP, margin tracking, revenue recognition, and client reporting across multi-agency contracts
Drive process improvements that streamline billing cycles and cash collection
Systems, Process & Team Development
Design scalable systems, tools, and workflows to support rapid growth
Evaluate and implement financial technology or ERP upgrades as needed
Collaborate with HR, operations, and project management teams to ensure financial alignment
Help recruit and mentor future finance team members as the department scales
Qualifications
15+ years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or FP&A roles
Experience in the AEC industry, with direct exposure to civil engineering or construction firms working with city/state government agencies
CPA strongly preferred
Deep expertise in FAR (Federal Acquisition Regulation) is mandatory
Thorough understanding of GAAP, with the ability to manage both frameworks in parallel
Proven success building or leading finance functions in growing organizations
Strong understanding of project costing, billing, and time-and-materials business models
High proficiency with financial systems and Excel; experience with platforms like Deltek, QuickBooks, or other ERPs a plus
Executive presence and strong communication skills—able to clearly present data to non-financial stakeholders
