What to Expect
Tesla seeks a Field Reliability Engineer with a strong background in electric automotive systems such as Powertrain, High Voltage battery, Chassis design, etc. to drive reliability excellence for the Tesla Semi. This role is pivotal in defining and ensuring exceptional reliability across the product lifecycle—from concept through design, development, manufacturing, and field operation. As a key technical contributor, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams (design, manufacturing, service, suppliers, etc.) to identify failure modes, analyze field data, validate countermeasures, and implement solutions that uphold Tesla's mission of delivering groundbreaking, reliable electric vehicles. Responsibilities include conducting failure analysis, designing field‑replication experiments, monitoring performance trends, and providing upfront design feedback to mitigate risks. The ideal candidate will establish robust reliability methodologies, prioritize issues based on impact, and support scalable, data‑driven improvements while maintaining rigorous documentation and alignment with Tesla's commitment to world‑changing technology.
What You’ll Do
Identify root causes by performing detailed failure analysis using a wide range of analytical tools and techniques including data analysis and functional testing
Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on all field‑related issues
Design and conduct experiments to replicate failures observed in the field
Analyze and interpret field and diagnostic logs/data to identify commonality on trending issues
Monitor product field performance, identify trending issues, and prioritize work based on severity, occurrence, and cost of each failure mode
Provide upfront feedback by participating in design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, and manufacturability issues are identified and risks are mitigated (DFMEAs)
Collaborate with appropriate engineers, suppliers, service, and manufacturers to drive resolution to the identified failure causes
What You’ll Bring
Prior experience in a hands‑on role such as Failure Analysis, Quality, or Service Engineer in consumer electronics or automotive industry
Exceptional problem‑solving and failure analysis skills, strong attention to detail, and analytical thinking
Ability to use tools and business system applications to manage, synthesize, and interpret data
Experience using programming languages & tools, like MATLAB or Python. Experience with SQL is a strong plus
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience
Genuine passion for engineering products that will fundamentally change the world, as well as, be self‑motivated with the desire to push boundaries
Strong technical first‑principles understanding, excellent problem‑solving skills, and a genuine fascination for engineering

Expected Compensation $84,000 - $192,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
