Salary: USD 70000 - 85000 Annually
GEI’s Washington DC office continues to grow and is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer in Metro DC or the surrounding areas of Virginia and Maryland. Specifically, we are seeking candidates with a strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics theories and their practical application. Experience or interest in structural engineering concepts, design of earth retaining systems, and environmental remediation are a plus.
Under the direction of a Senior Engineer, this individual will support engineering investigations, analyses, and reporting and will assist in preparing design documents for foundations and excavations support systems, ground improvement systems, instrumentation, and environmental work. The selected candidate will collect geotechnical, environmental, and instrumentation data from site investigation activities and help interpret this data for design. Construction management and construction observation are also part of the role.
This position will include performing or preparing:
Geotechnical field investigations.
Geotechnical and environmental in-situ testing.
Installation of instrumentation in the field.
Coordination and interpretation of lab tests.
Geotechnical and structural engineering analysis and calculations.
Technical memos, reports, and construction specifications.
Design and modification of drawings using AutoCAD.
Field construction oversight, monitoring, and testing.
Minimum Qualifications
B.S. in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering.
0 to 3+ years of experience.
Familiarity with CAD and drafting.
Excellent writing and speaking skills.
Valid US driver’s license.
Ability to travel, including for overnight and away assignments.
Ability to perform field work under variable weather conditions and at active construction sites.
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering.
GIS and modeling experience.
40-hr OSHA/HAZWOPER training.
