Departmental Overview The department provides IT services for University Health Services (UHS) and Recreation and Wellbeing (RecWell). UHS delivers comprehensive medical, mental health, health promotion, sports medicine, and insurance services to all California students and occupational health services to faculty and staff. RecWell offers a range of recreational activities, fitness programs, and facilities for UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community.

Responsibilities

Information Systems Operations – manage all aspects of the department’s computer systems and technical services, including design, development, installation, operation, and maintenance of UHS and RecWell technical environments.

Resource Management – make recommendations and implement decisions on operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, HR, space planning, and oversee hiring, salary actions, performance ratings.

Project Management – lead cross‑functional project teams, conduct feasibility studies, develop and implement new or modified information processing systems, and represent UHS and UC Berkeley interests with UC Davis Health.

Network Management and Support – manage installation, testing, and maintenance of local and wide area network infrastructure across multiple campus locations.

Database Management – direct integrated database operations, support mission‑critical database applications for UHS medical systems, and manage installation and repair of new database systems.

Systems Development – oversee information systems development and security functions for campus health departments, including Enterprise Practice Management, Electronic Health Record, Pharmacy, Lab systems, and other critical medical systems.

Security & Operations – coordinate security of data on departmental servers, enforce physical access policies, manage information systems access, develop disaster recovery and emergency plans, and serve as UHS HIPAA Security Officer.

Staff Development – provide coaching, mentoring, training, and conference attendance opportunities to help staff grow and stretch.

Required Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Uses and applies advanced Information Technology principles to manage complex problems.

In-depth knowledge of applications programming development and broad IT organization knowledge.

Ability to gather, organize, and analyze data for functional assignments.

Resolves issues using established parameters and judgment.

Extensive knowledge for strategic planning, technology assessment, and direction.

Experience managing technical staff.

Experienced in leading change management across multiple units.

Experience managing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion.

Knowledge of data communications, computer hardware, vendor IT products, and software.

Ability to adapt, integrate, and modify existing programs or vendor‑supplied products in a large technical environment.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presenting technical topics to varied audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree preferred.

4–10 years of experience managing an information technology organization.

Salary & Benefits

Budgeted salary range: $175,000.00 to $204,000.00.

100% full‑time (40 hours per week), career position eligible for full UC benefits.

Position is exempt and paid monthly.
