General Description SUNY Niagara has a need for a part time Music Instructor for our Piano Musicianship course.
This course is taught in person in a classroom setting on our Sanborn, NY campus.
Class instruction for beginning keyboard music majors designed to teach the concepts and fundamentals needed to perform at the piano. Content is focused on improving keyboard skills through sight‑reading, scales, arpeggiations, harmonization’s, accompanying, and improvising. Proper piano technique, and posture will be addressed as well as appropriate literature for successful placement into a baccalaureate music program.
Group piano lessons to include individual and ensemble performances, and assignments combined with lecture and practical applications of music theory as it relates to the piano keyboard. Students will be expected to sing and play upon instructor request and at all performances.
Remuneration for persons teaching at least 3 credits in a semester: $960 per lecture hour/$860 per lab hour.
Typical Work Activities
Teach course on campus.
Track attendance as needed
Report on student learning outcomes at the end of the semester
Report grades at the conclusion of the semester
Essential Functions Ability to work with, and teach a diverse student population. Ability to speak in front of groups of people. Must be able to effectively communicate with students, co‑workers, supervisors and the campus community. Must be able to develop, prepare and present information. Must able to operate computers. Must be able to physically perform the duties of the position and must adjust any teaching to the Americans with Disabilities Act provisions.
Required Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience teaching piano at high school or college level
Desirable Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Music or related field
Experience using Microsoft Office software i.e. Excel and Word
Experience with the Brightspace learning management system.
