Description
The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and mechanical repairs across thermoforming lines, extrusion equipment, and facility systems. This position supports production by helping maintain safe, efficient, and reliable equipment operation.
Key Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance & Equipment Care
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on extrusion lines, thermoforming machines, grinders, chillers, compressors, vacuum systems, conveyors, and other production equipment.
Complete lubrication, filter replacements, belt changes, alignment checks, and routine adjustments with minimal supervision.
Inspect equipment for wear, leaks, or component failures and document findings.
Troubleshooting & Mechanical Repairs
Assist with mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting; identify common failure points on production equipment.
Repair or replace basic mechanical components such as bearings, hoses, valves, cylinders, fittings, limit switches, sensors, and wear parts.
Support senior technicians during more complex breakdowns, changeovers, or machine rebuilds.
Help set up or adjust equipment during production startups, mold changes, or tooling changes.
Coordinate with the Mold Team regarding preparation and/or mold preventive maintenance (PM).
Facility, Utility & Infrastructure Support
Perform general building maintenance, including lighting, basic plumbing, and minor electrical tasks within approved scope and training.
Assist with maintenance of facility support systems such as chillers, air compressors, dust collection, water systems
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance and spare parts storage area.
Documentation & Compliance
Accurately complete PM logs, work orders, repair notes, and parts usage records.
Follow all GMPs, food-safety standards, LOTO, OSHA requirements, and company safety policies.
Report unsafe conditions, recurring issues, and required parts promptly.
Team Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Communicate equipment status and repair needs to production and maintenance leadership.
Participate in training, skill-building, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support fellow technicians and engineers during major repairs, installations, or projects.
Requirements Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
1-3 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, industrial, or mechanical trades.
Basic understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, multimeters, calipers, micrometers, and other basic maintenance tools.
Ability to read simple mechanical diagrams, work instructions, and PM procedures.
Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, bend, kneel, and work in various temperature environments.
Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or different shifts as needed.
Preferred (Not Required)
Experience in plastics manufacturing (extrusion, thermoforming, injection molding).
Familiarity with industrial electrical systems (480V), VFDs, relays, sensors, and PLC-controlled equipment.
Technical school or vocational training in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related fields.
Experience with CMMS systems for work order and PM tracking
