Schedule: Full‑time
Position Summary: Provides evidence‑based vision care to ensure patients’ health and wellbeing by recommending and prescribing medications and other treatment options (e.g., LASIK, cataract surgery) using evidence‑based care guidelines. Delivers routine vision care, educates patients and store associates on eye health—including contact lens care, disease‑state management, and safety factors—recommends appropriate patient follow‑up, and consults with other health professionals to prepare and coordinate care plans in accordance with optometry scope of practice and state board regulations. Provides referrals to ophthalmologists and other specialists, follows up on outstanding diagnostics, and ensures adherence to state, local, federal, and Walmart vision‑center guidelines.
Clinical Responsibilities: • Evaluates patients’ visual acuity, visual function, keratometry, and refraction to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment. • Performs comprehensive eye examinations, utilizing observation instruments and pharmaceutical agents to determine visual acuity, perception, focus, coordination, and to identify signs of vision defects (e.g., injury, disease, abnormality). • Prescribes, fits, and adjusts eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids, and orders, interprets, and assesses diagnostic tests such as glaucoma testing and optical coherence tomography (OCT). • Provides additional vision treatment (e.g., foreign‑body removal) and develops treatment plans based on patient presentation and evidence‑based care guidelines. • Represents the company in patient engagement by delivering exceptional customer service through all interactions, maintaining accurate confidential patient information in vision‑center systems (e.g., BOSS), and assisting vision‑center staff with best practices and procedures.
Administrative and Retail Duties: • Performs financial transactions, patient registration, and retail transactions as needed. • Works with internal stakeholders (pharmacist clinics, store management) and external stakeholders (healthcare professionals) to ensure coordinated, integrated patient care and high‑quality customer service. • Provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives, developing communication strategies, building support for and implementing business plans, evaluating operational processes, measuring outcomes, and identifying improvement opportunities.
People Management: • Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled, engaged workforce, including diagnosing capability gaps, recruiting, selecting, and developing talent, supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning. • Cultivates an environment of integrity, ethics, and compliance, integrating values into all programs and supporting an open‑door policy.
Community Engagement: • Leads key community outreach initiatives, engages stakeholders, and supports associate efforts for community involvement.
Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Optometry (OD) from an accredited optometry school; licensed optometrist in good standing in the state of practice.
Preferred Qualifications: Other healthcare experience.
