Job Overview
The Executive Director provides overall leadership, management, and strategic oversight for The Salvation Army’s 211‑room Active Adult Living Facility located in East Harlem, NY. This role ensures the facility operates efficiently, compassionately, and in alignment with The Salvation Army’s mission to meet human needs in the name of Jesus Christ without discrimination.
The Executive Director manages all aspects of marketing, occupancy, operations, and resident services. This includes direct supervision of the Director of Operations, oversight of support staff, and coordination of catering and hospitality services. The successful candidate will be an experienced, mission‑oriented leader with the ability to balance operational excellence with a genuine concern for residents’ quality of life.

Performance‑Based Adjustment
Salary increases will be considered based on measurable growth in facility occupancy, resident satisfaction, and overall operational performance. As occupancy levels increase and financial sustainability improves, the Executive Director will be eligible for performance‑based salary adjustments, as approved by divisional leadership and consistent with Salvation Army compensation policy.
Leadership & Administration
Provide overall leadership and direction for the facility in accordance with The Salvation Army’s mission, policies, and strategic goals.
Supervise the Director of Operations, who in turn oversees administrative and support staff, ensuring effective communication, accountability, and alignment with organizational objectives.
Develop, implement, and monitor annual operating budgets in collaboration with divisional leadership.
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Represent the facility to community partners, funders, and local agencies to enhance visibility and collaboration.
Marketing & Occupancy
Develop and execute marketing strategies to maintain optimal occupancy levels.
Build and sustain referral networks with hospitals, community organizations, senior service agencies, and local churches.
Oversee resident intake and move‑in processes to ensure a welcoming experience.
Track occupancy data, analyze trends, and adjust strategies to sustain healthy resident engagement and retention.
Operations & Facility Management
Oversee daily operations, including property maintenance, housekeeping, and safety programs through the Director of Operations.
Coordinate with divisional property and risk management teams to ensure safety, compliance, and asset management.
Supervise catering and food service operations, maintaining high standards for quality, nutrition, and service.
Manage vendor and service contracts to ensure efficiency and value.
Collaborate closely with local Salvation Army Corps Officers (Pastors) to integrate spiritual care and community engagement opportunities within the residence.
Encourage the development of inclusive worship opportunities, pastoral support, and volunteer engagement.
Support partnerships that strengthen the spiritual, social, and emotional well‑being of residents.
Resident Relations & Community Life
Promote a warm, inclusive, vibrant community atmosphere that supports resident engagement, well‑being, and spiritual enrichment.
Ensure delivery of programs and activities that enhance residents’ social, emotional, and spiritual quality of life.
Address residents’ concerns promptly and professionally, maintaining strong communication with residents and families.
Personnel Management
Recruit, develop, and evaluate staff in accordance with The Salvation Army’s HR policies and Christian values.
Foster a culture of respect, teamwork, and mission‑centered service.
Provide regular feedback, coaching, and professional development opportunities for staff.

Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Gerontology, Human Services, or a related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in senior living, housing, hospitality, or nonprofit management.
Demonstrated success in marketing, occupancy management, budgeting, and team leadership.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Strong leadership and organizational management skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public relations abilities.
Proven track record of occupancy growth and retention.
Financial acumen and experience managing budgets and facilities.
Sensitivity to the needs of older adults and diverse populations.
