Base pay range $225,000.00 per year – $400,000.00 per year
Summary St. Cloud VA Health Care System is seeking a Surgery Specialty Care (SSC) Integrated Clinical Community (ICC) Director in St. Cloud, MN. The SSC ICC Director has clinical and administrative oversight of the SSC ICC Service Line. The incumbent must have strong managerial and organizational skills as well as extensive clinical knowledge in the area of surgery. This position may be eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) — a student loan payment reimbursement program.
Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants who are pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy)
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the VA for the year completed
Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia
Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification
For residency programs: ACGME, AOA, or other residency followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice, as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
Residency program trainees who would otherwise meet the basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee basis; PRPs must be fully licensed and may only perform restricted duties under supervision
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Board certification in surgery preferred
Strong leadership, communication, and coalition‑building skills
Physical ability to participate in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation
Duties
Provide leadership and management for the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) and related specialties, ensuring delivery of high‑quality surgical care to Veterans
Manage administrative, clinical, and educational responsibilities with a focus on patient safety, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration
Be credentialed and privileged to practice surgery in an operating room setting at the VA medical facility
Lead the Facility Surgical Work Group (FSWG) and serve on relevant committees and workgroups, representing the surgical service
Respond to issues concerning clinical outcomes, surgical standards of care, and coordination of surgical care with the VA medical facility
Disseminate information from NSO or VISN leadership to FSWG members and others
Facilitate and participate in VA medical facility surgical mortality and morbidity review conferences
Collaborate with the facility surgical quality nurse to ensure valid surgical data entry and compliance with VASQIP requirements
Assist in assessment and management of faculty, students, residents, and staff in the SSC ICC
Oversee employee and labor relations, equal employment opportunity matters, joint patient safety reports, and related issues
Provide guidance and clinical supervision for nurse practitioners, nurses, physician assistants, and health technicians assigned to surgery and specialty care
Monitor performance of surgical staff, promoting professional development and compliance with VA regulations and standards
Support implementation and expansion of programs within the SSC/ASC
Oversee the SSC ICC budget and financial performance
Participate in facility programs that improve patient care delivery, such as process improvement action teams, root cause analysis, and peer review
Lead evidence‑based initiatives to enhance patient care
Maintain ongoing continuing medical education, formal and informal, to stay current in disease and illness management
Serve on external review bodies, including the Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General, Office of Medical Investigation, and annual workplace evaluations
Coordinate any applicable VA grants or incentive programs, such as sign‑on bonuses or the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)
Meet specific eligibility requirements for EDRP and submit application within four months of appointment
Receive a competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases, and a comprehensive total rewards package, including paid time off, retirement benefits, and health insurance options
Work a Monday‑to‑Friday schedule from 08:00 am to 04:30 pm
