Overview
American Humane Society (AHS) is seeking an experienced Vice President, Marketing responsible for the evolution and integrity of the American Humane Society (AHS) and Global Humane Society (GHS) brand and the development and deployment of marketing strategies to achieve critical business objectives and position the organization for international growth. This hybrid position, based at the DC office, reports directly to the Senior Vice President & Chief Growth Officer.

Position Summary The VP, Marketing is responsible for the evolution and integrity of the AHS and GHS brand and for developing and executing marketing strategies that drive business objectives and support international growth. The role will define brand strategy, conduct market analysis, and lead a cross‑functional marketing team covering brand and positioning, content, digital, program sales, and fundraising. The VP will collaborate with the CCO, CEO, and senior leadership to maintain brand consistency across all communication channels.
Responsibilities
Marketing Strategy, Vision and Leadership
Reimagine and implement an integrated marketing vision that builds brand awareness and engagement.
Work with the CGO, CPO, COO, CCO, VP, Partnerships, and agency partners to refine brand architecture, vision, and strategy.
Support the CCO and CEO on PR and executive visibility plans.
Set and monitor KPIs to gauge marketing effectiveness.
Drive “always on” and seasonal/trend‑driven marketing campaigns to increase brand awareness, consideration, and conversion.
Digital Marketing
Lead all digital marketing channels and collaborate with the CCO and Director, Digital Fundraising.
Evaluate and enhance web, digital, graphic design, social media, and marketing assets.
Plan, execute, and optimize SEO, SEM, social media, email, display advertising, and content marketing campaigns.
Drive acquisition through website optimization tactics and ROI‑focused budgeting.
Partnership and Program Marketing
Spearhead marketing strategies for development and program portfolios.
Leverage research, analytics, and market trends to guide growth initiatives.
Create stewardship opportunities for corporate and foundation partners.
Collaborate with development and program leaders on brand partnership execution.
Communications
– Work collaboratively with the Chief Communications Officer to ensure brand consistency.
Program Leadership & Business Development
– Ensure brand consistency across program teams.
Events
– Work with the events function to maintain brand consistency.
Team and Budget Management
Oversee daily marketing operations, budgeting, and staff development.
Build and lead a team focused on go‑to‑market strategies.
Set performance goals, assess accountabilities, and conduct annual appraisals.
Foster a high‑performance culture emphasizing continuous improvement.
Perform miscellaneous job duties as requested.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s Degree
10–15 years of experience in a marketing leadership role
Deep experience building and managing marketing teams in the nonprofit or campaign‑driven sector
Experience in brand architecture, product positioning, and digital strategy
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency with design, digital, and social media platforms
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Strong relationship‑building skills
Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism
Capacity to handle multiple priorities quickly
Knowledge of corporate partnerships, cause marketing best practices, and BBB guidelines
History of supervision and mentorship
Passion for AHS’s mission and service to animals and people
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

Position based in the DC Metro area with a hybrid work schedule.
Travel up to 25%; occasional evenings and weekends.
