Responsibilities

Learn Walgreens’ operations and ways of working to lead “one-box” (full store operations across front‑end and pharmacy).

Complete the accelerated development track to Store Manager within the specified timeframe as outlined in the learning plan.

Under the direction of the Store Manager, oversee the operation (front‑end and pharmacy) of a Walgreens store.

Support store operations by shadowing or assisting the Store Manager during the learning journey.

Training & Personal Development

Complete a rigorous, accelerated program including all certifications needed for the Store Manager role.

Attend classroom learning, online training, and on‑the‑job training. Fulfill assigned rotations and learning objectives by spending time in other stores in the area as assigned.

Follow individual development plans offered by the District Manager and participate in one‑on‑one conversations with the Store Manager and District Manager to have continuous professional growth.

Seek self‑development by monitoring own performance, setting high personal standards, and learning about retail, pharmacy, and management best practices.

Learn and actively implement compliance standard operating procedures (SOPs) across front‑end and pharmacy, and gain knowledge of all computer and technology systems and software.

Obtain pharmacy technician registration/licensure as required by state law, and pursue PTCB certification as required by state.

Customer Experience

Engage customers and patients, greet them, and offer assistance with products and services.

Resolve customer complaints in a timely manner and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.

Model and share customer service best practices, monitor service standards, provide coaching, and develop plans for improvements.

Support the Store Manager in observing customer service trends, analyzing feedback, and improving service metrics.

Operations

Shadow the Store Manager, gain experience, perform and demonstrate proficiency in supervising store operations and team members, including opening/closing/shifts and task delegation.

Demonstrate ability to supervise merchandising tasks such as sets, resets, and promotional displays using discount pricing, signs, public announcements, and seasonality.

Support the Store Manager in protecting store assets by administering and monitoring loss‑prevention programs and systems.

Learn and react to the electronic surveillance system, ensure price accuracy, and perform in‑store price audits.

Analyze inventory trends and supervise inventory management, including receiving, counting, ordering, pricing, and returns.

Supervise operations of the assigned location, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Ensure the safety and well‑being of team members and effectively utilize the Security Operations Center.

Comply with all company policies, maintain respectful relationships with coworkers and business partners, and complete special assignments as requested.

Business Performance Management

Analyze financial and performance data for the store and pharmacy and develop action plans to improve business results.

Identify sales opportunities to ensure growth and performance of the store and pharmacy.

Review and analyze asset‑protection data and develop action plans to reduce loss.

Review daily performance indicators and weekly operational metrics, and prepare action plans to discuss with the Store Manager and District Manager.

Analyze pharmacy performance indicators and collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager and/or Pharmacy Operations Manager to enhance pharmacy performance.

Business Planning

Work with the Store Manager to understand key inventory metrics and processes.

Learn how to grow front‑end and pharmacy business with new initiatives directed by the Support Center, community outreach, and retail partnerships through planning, implementing, and reviewing outcomes.

People & Performance Management

Learn all aspects of people management at Walgreens, including training and coaching on standard operating procedures.

Use Walgreens’ HR and people‑management systems to supervise team members.

Shadow the Store Manager in action planning and performance conversations, becoming familiar with performance‑management assessment criteria and metrics.

Understand discipline and performance‑improvement plans when necessary.

Review and become knowledgeable of all company policy and local, state, and federal laws related to selection, recruitment, record retention, and training of team members.

Support the Store Manager in leveraging the team’s strengths, skills, and abilities to increase engagement and overcome challenges.

Communications

Shadow the Store Manager and attend all critical communication sessions, learning best practices for providing and receiving feedback and ensuring open communication.

Assist the Store Manager and/or District Manager in planning and attending community events.

Facilitate team‑member discussions around key operational and engagement metrics.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years retail management experience, or High School Diploma/GED and 5 years retail management experience.

Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including extended days, evenings, and weekend hours.

Willingness to accept assignment into a Store Manager position if offered.

Willingness to transfer to other Walgreens retail assets within the same hiring area.

Preferred Qualifications

PTCB Certification.

Bachelor’s Degree.

Managerial experience in a retail or hospitality manager or assistant‑manager capacity, with people leadership, business management, and customer‑facing experience.
