Chief Business Officer, School of Science & Engineering Dean – School of Science & Engineering

Location: New Orleans, LA

Summary Oversees all administrative functions of the School of Science & Engineering (SSE), including fiscal management, budget, space and facility management, informational technology, human resources, marketing, communications, events and business affairs of SSE. The Chief Business Officer (CBO) reports directly to the Dean and serves as a member of the senior leadership team of the School of Science & Engineering. With the goal of enhancing the research profile of the 12 departments and programs in the School of Science & Engineering, with a strong commitment to increasing enrollments in online and professional programs, the CBO will play a key leadership role in developing a strategic vision, developing a fundraising structure, aligning resources and developing strategic budgetary planning in line with the vision of the Dean of the School of Science & Engineering. The CBO also manages an inventory of buildings and space under SSE control, and serves as a liaison between areas and programs, the Dean, and University’s Facilities Management to maintain and improve the usage and environmental sustainability of space in SSE. Working in collaboration with University IT, the CBO oversees Information Technology in the School of Science & Engineering. Finally, working alongside the five associate and senior associate deans, and reporting directly to the Dean, manages reporting chains and human resources issues, represents SSE on financial matters and business operations, and coordinates with other units campus-wide, including university upper administration.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Proven leadership and management experience with resource allocation and leading personnel.

Creative and broad thinker and collaborator, plus ability to develop a short and long-term vision and communications, including a detailed work plan.

Excellent negotiations, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize assignments, address multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet established deadlines.

Ability to interact and communicate effectively and diplomatically with colleagues.

Commitment to advancing the School’s goals of broadening participation in Science and Engineering.

Excellent group presentation, oral, and written communication skills.

Spreadsheet and database software proficiency.

Familiarity with the enterprise software programs that support academic, administrative, and financial management.

Ability to work with a matrix organizational reporting structure.

Required Education and/or Experience

Graduate Degree.

Twelve years of strategic and operational business leadership and management experience, either in higher education, government, non‑profit or corporate sector.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in a university or higher education setting.

Master’s Degree in business or finance.

Experience managing other professionals.

Appreciation for issues of space management and facilities.

Five years of Leadership and/or management in business management within private or public organizations.

Compensation Information This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 29PREM.
