The
Project Manager
is the primary point of contact with the customer for the contracts assigned to them. This position is responsible for driving the overall operational performance of the contract. Additionally, responsible for ensuring all customer contract requirements are met and that projects meet or exceed all performance targets.
Responsibilities
Plans, monitors, and reports project status and performance data to management and stakeholders.
Anticipates potential implications of current work and makes proactive decisions to ensure efficient productivity and completion of projects.
Accountable for managing risks, develop & implement mitigation plans, and communicate risks for both self-performed and subcontracted work across all phases of the project.
Provides insight to thought leadership in the continuous improvement of methodology, tools, and approaches using fundamentals of H&M Project Management practices, while mentoring others and/or being an individual contributor with responsibilities for providing project management expertise or leading internal processes across other project delivery functions.
Ensures that team goals, roles, protocols, and business relationships are consistent with high-performance requirements and congruent with the company's strategy.
Manages within an environment of trust & candor, promotes accountability, and assertively offers encouragement & constructive feedback.
Responsible for managing additional resources assigned to an initiative/project.
Contract and Financial Performance
Understands the contract, as well as any other documentation regarding requirements or expectations for the project which could include: Deliverables, KPIs, Scheduling, Safety Requirements, Customer Specific Requirements, Units of Measurement, and Contract Terms & Conditions.
Manages scope creep with contract change orders and review of originally contracted scope with customer.
Responsible for ensuring the H&M West tracking systems will support contract and reporting requirements.
Ensures all data is accurately entered into the H&M West database in a timely manner
Ensures quality of data provided to the customer.
Project Management Performance
Manages day to day activities for all aspects of assigned projects, inception through execution and close-out.
Directs staff to ensure job setup, production accuracy, cost accuracy, and change orders are performed.
Direct, coordinate, and review design efforts with engineering consultants.
Communicates support requirements to staff with accuracy and in a timely manner.
Provides project status reports on overall project performance to Senior Project Manager and/or Program Manager.
Responsible for overall project performance (P&L).
Responsible for providing periodic project status reports and performance reports to customer.
Maintains resource loaded schedules for all assigned projects.
Review and approve project documentation which could include: Timesheets, Production, and/or Accounts Payable.
Leads project teams and use project management tools and processes to execute projects which could include:
Review and acceptance of contractual terms and conditions.
Inclusion of customer requirements and procedures into execution plan.
Leading team in development and execution of project plan and schedule.
Monitoring performance against key performance indicators and adjusting plan to get back on track.
Managing project team performance.
Identifying high risk activities and developing mitigation plans.
Maintaining customer awareness of project status, issues, changes, etc.
Leading in-person or virtual project meetings with customer, subcontractors, and/or internal team members.
Prepare and file meeting and/or general notes on project updates throughout lifecycle of project.
Qualifications
Experience managing mid-scale projects and advanced knowledge of construction and utility industry practices
Understanding of Critical Path Scheduling software and MS Office Suite
PMP certification (preferred)
Complex problem-solving skills Highly complex problem-solving skills
Highly organized and able to adapt to complex schedules and changes
Strong communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
Must be highly adaptable to new processes and procedures
Minimum Educational Background BS degree in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, and/or Business
Minimum Years of Relevant Experience 3+ years of project management experience in the utility industry; preferably managing T&D, electrical distribution, substation distribution project scope/
Physical Demands
Sitting : Frequent sitting for extended periods while working on a computer, attending meetings, and reviewing documentation.
Standing/Walking : Occasional standing and walking, especially during site visits, team meetings, or field coordination.
Manual Dexterity : Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents and devices.
Visual Acuity : Requires close vision for reading plans, specifications, reports, and working with software tools.
Communication : Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors.
Lifting : May occasionally lift and carry items such as laptops, binders, or small equipment (typically under 25 lbs).
Travel : May require travel to project sites or client locations, involving driving and navigating construction environments.
