Registered Nurse II 7 East Medical Care Unit - Sign on $15,000 (2500016O) The 7 East Medical Care Unit is an exciting, innovative, dynamic, fast-paced, 50-bed, acute care unit, and the first-choice unit for patients with a variety of medical care needs. 7 East is recognized for its teamwork and multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of quality patient care. All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children\'s National Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. Responsibilities Functional Accountabilities include Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice, Safety, Organizational Accountabilities, Organizational Commitment/Identification, Customer Service, Teamwork/Communication, Performance Improvement/Problem-solving, and Cost Management/Financial Responsibility. Examples of responsibilities include:

Transformational Leadership: Contribute to Magnet re-designation; update professional profile; initiate council involvement, committees, task forces and community outreach.

Demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving during patient care; communicate to develop the plan of care; advocate for patients\' needs.

Independently escalate issues using the chain of command; use hand-off processes properly; maintain collegial relationships with staff.

Participate in implementing change and support management decisions; model empathetic, service-oriented behavior.

Structural Empowerment: Maintain regulatory requirements (e.g., license, BLS); plan mandatory education; participate in peer reviews; support department goals and safety standards; collaborate with the healthcare team.

Utilize resources and know when to escalate; demonstrate teamwork and professional behavior.

Exemplary Professional Practice: Utilize patient and family assessment data to complete the data base and care plan within identified timeframes; demonstrate clinical skills for complex patients; prioritize and organize care for rapidly changing needs; ensure documentation meets high standards; plan for educational needs and discharge preparation.

Demonstrate caring in all encounters with patients and families; improve patient satisfaction scores.

Safety: Speak up about unsafe behavior; validate information for decision making; resolve uncertainties; maintain accurate and timely communication; promote safety for patients, families, visitors and coworkers; self-check behavior and performance.

Organizational Accountabilities and Improvements: Identify quality improvement opportunities; pursue self-learning; base care on evidence; support diversity and maintain confidentiality; uphold integrity.

Cost Management/Financial Responsibility: Use resources efficiently; seek cost-effective methods.

Qualifications Minimum Education BSN Graduated from an approved school of nursing. (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience 1 year RN experience (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge The licensed Registered Nurse will successfully complete the hospital and nursing orientation at Children’s National. Keep knowledge base current with new information or changes in specialty area.

Required Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse in District of Columbia; Registered Nurse license in the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia depending upon location of practice. (Required) Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
