Program Description The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science programs at Boston University serve 136 Boston and Chelsea public high school students by providing academic instruction, math and science enrichment activities, tutoring, social enrichment, and personal support. Position Description The instructor is responsible for teaching one to two sections of a test‑preparation course during the spring after‑school program for college‑bound high school students. Each section meets on the Boston University campus during the late afternoon and early evening (based on teacher preference and student needs). Each section meets once a week for two hours and typically on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. The test‑prep instructor is expected to develop and implement course curriculum, provide written evaluations of student performance, and attend a Spring Parent Open House. The position is part‑time; program dates are January 26, 2026 through May 8, 2026.
Educational Requirements Minimum Bachelor’s degree in education (Master’s preferred), or related field, with certification and/or teaching experience in the appropriate content area.
Required Experience Minimum one year teaching experience in secondary education required. Applicants must possess an understanding of the needs of disadvantaged youth and the skillset to respond to student learning needs with innovative ideas and approaches without compromising course content. Excellent interpersonal skills are a must.
Salary $45 per instructional hour.
