Overview As a Biomedical Engineering Technician I (BMET I), you maintain medical equipment readiness and ensure conformance with manufacturer specifications by performing schedule maintenance, repairs, end‑user support, and installations. BMET technicians support compliance with the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) to improve patient safety.

Responsibilities

Test and calibrate medical devices (preventive maintenance).

Troubleshoot medical devices in a clinical setting and/or bench/depot setting (corrective maintenance).

Install and inspect new, trial and/or demonstration equipment prior to use (incoming inspection).

Ensure compliance with all regulatory processes necessary (CMS, FDA GMP, NJDOH, etc.).

Educate oneself in the proper use, care and maintenance of medical devices.

Review technical manuals for understanding of product specifications and safety.

Maintain comprehensive records of all maintenance and repair activities, documenting each action thoroughly.

Troubleshoot medical device networks and report findings/issues to leader.

Maintain inventory of repair parts, supplies, and technical resources.

Order repair parts and/or components and supplies as required using HMH ERP system(s).

Maintain incoming and outgoing equipment log for repair and maintenance.

Transport and source couriers devices, maintained by Biomedical Engineering, between Biomedical Engineering and the device owner site/location/department for maintenance, or supplies and equipment from local vendors as directed.

Perform minor repairs on devices as directed.

Actively stay informed and knowledgeable about changes, enhancements, and new features and versions related to the equipment and machines with which you work.

Attend on‑site training as well as off‑site and/or out‑of‑state training that may require travel and overnight stays.

Travel to all Hackensack Meridian Health locations (hospitals, urgent care, primary care, etc.) as needed.

Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Lifting: a minimum of 50 lbs.; pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs.; standing a minimum of 6.0 hours a day.

Qualifications

AS degree in Electronics or AS degree in Biomedical Engineering or completion of a U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program or a high‑school diploma, GED, or equivalent programs with a minimum of 2 years full‑time experience working on electronics equipment.

Basic understanding of electronic/mechanical devices.

Basic customer service and support of electronic/mechanical devices.

Unrestricted ability to attend on‑site training as well as off‑site and/or out‑of‑state training requiring travel that can include one or more overnight stays.

Knowledge of current technology and its uses as it relates to healthcare.

Perform duties with some supervision.

Experience with a wide range of electromechanical devices, computers, networks and software used in the delivery of healthcare.

Preferred Qualifications

AS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering.

Full‑time experience working in Biomedical Engineering.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Compensation The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Posted hourly rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer and posted annual salaries may be stated as an hourly rate in the offer, depending on the level and nature of the job duties and credentials of the candidate. Compensation is benchmarked against market data to ensure competitiveness, takes into account experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity and departmental budgets or grant funding.

Benefits In addition to full‑time and part‑time job positions, HMH offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement benefits. The minimum hourly rate for this position is $34.65 per hour.
