The
Biomedical Engineering Technician I (BMET I)
maintains medical equipment readiness and ensures conformance with manufacturer specifications by performing scheduled maintenance, repairs, end‑user support, and installations. BMET technicians support compliance with the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) to improve patient safety.
Responsibilities
Tests and calibrates medical devices (preventive maintenance).
Troubleshoots medical devices in a clinical setting and/or bench/depot setting (corrective maintenance).
Installs and inspects new, trial and/or demonstration equipment prior to use (incoming inspection).Ensures compliance with all regulatory processes necessary (CMS, FDA GMP, NJDOH, etc.).
Educates oneself on proper use, care and maintenance of medical devices.
Reviews technical manuals to understand product specifications and safety.
Maintains comprehensive records of all maintenance and repair activities, documenting each action thoroughly.
Troubleshoots medical device networks and reports findings/issues to leader.
Maintains inventory of repair parts, supplies, and technical resources.
Orders repair parts and/or components and supplies as required using HMH ERP system(s).
Maintains incoming and outgoing equipment log for repair and maintenance.
Transports and sources courier devices, maintained by Biomedical Engineering, between sites for maintenance, or supplies and equipment from local vendors as directed.
Performs minor repairs on devices as directed.
Actively stays informed and knowledgeable about changes, enhancements, and new features and versions related to the equipment and machines with which one works.
Attends on‑the‑job training as well as off‑site and/or out‑of‑state training that may require travel and overnight stays.
Travels to all Hackensack Meridian Health locations as needed.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of 6.0 hours a day.
Qualifications Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
AS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering, completion of a U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program, or a high school diploma with a minimum of 2 years full‑time experience working on electronics equipment.
Basic understanding of electronic/mechanical devices.
Basic functions of customer service and support of electronic/mechanical devices.
Unrestricted ability to attend on‑job training as well as off‑site and/or out‑of‑state training requiring travel that may include overnight stays.
Knowledge of current technology and its uses as it relates to healthcare.
Performs duties with some supervision.
Experience with a wide range of electromechanical devices, computers, networks and software used in healthcare delivery.
Education, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Preferred
AS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering.
Full‑time experience in Biomedical Engineering.
Licenses And Certifications Required
Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Compensation Minimum rate of $34.65 per hour. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting.
