Our Technical Operations team is full of aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities professionals, and supply chain teams that help make sure they're well taken care of and ready to get our customers to their desired destinations. Job overview and responsibilities Shop Overhaul Engineering is responsible for a wide variety of projects and support work in UA component and rework/remanufacturing shops including component repairs, robotic programming, avionics, composites, structures, reverse engineering, data analysis and process/policy management. This requires leading a team with extensive multi‑functional engineering expertise in material processing, metallurgy, destructive testing of materials, microstructural analysis, chemical testing, product management and component repair processes. Responsible for the ongoing fine‑tuning of component and equipment Engineering procedures in GMMs, Operation Guides, Standard Operating Procedures, and training information. Responsible for organizing major shop standardization and optimization initiatives for internal component shops throughout the UA system.
Execution of departmental strategy and business plan through direct leadership of engineering personnel
Provide leadership and direction to assure compliance with regulations and technical requirements in support of the maintenance, repair and overhaul of engines and engine modules, components, and piece parts
Lead engineering team in the development and implementation of product improvements for issues related to the operation, performance, modification, and/or repair of engines, engine modules, components, and piece parts
Identify key issues needing to be addressed and assign projects seeking to develop product and process improvements
Define and measure key performance indicators for engineering services delivery and support to wider United Airlines
Partner with shop operations to provide clear, focused and achievable technical repair options to improve safety and on‑wing time while minimizing shop cost and turnaround time
Provide leadership for failure analysis and investigations through understanding of failure and distress modes, and execution of root cause analysis and status of operations, highlighting significant events to Director while providing directions to engineering team and product line leaders to ensure divisional objectives are achieved
Qualifications What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, electrical, chemical, metallurgical or mechanical)
10 years engineering experience in the engine/component maintenance industry with a minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership role
Broad understanding of engineering technologies including composite materials, material forming processes, metallurgical analysis, high‑temperature coating processes and machining, plating, and thermal processing
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Master’s degree or related experience
Project management and process improvement experience
Experience with helping facilities adapt to new processes and procedures to optimize aircraft engine and component repairs
Experience with curating and managing CAD and CNC data files
The base pay range for this role is $137,275.00 to $187,000.00. The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job‑related factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long‑term incentive compensation awards.
