Healthcare Shares Overview Healthcare Shares is a Healthcare Venture Capital fund investing across the full spectrum of healthcare innovation, including digital health platforms, AI clinical tools, virtual care models, remote diagnostics, care-coordination systems, and population-level health enablement. We are forming a cohort of Orthopedic Surgeon Advisors within our multidisciplinary clinical network to ensure investment decisions reflect real-world procedural workflows, functional recovery needs, safety standards, and scalable specialty–primary care alignment.

Role Overview Orthopedic Surgeon Advisors will support our diligence process by evaluating startups through the lens of musculoskeletal injury progression, surgical decision pathways, rehabilitation feasibility, postoperative recovery, and utilization dynamics. While our portfolio spans general clinical innovation rather than MSK-only solutions, orthopedic surgeons offer essential perspective on surgical appropriateness, mobility outcomes, pain-safety logic, and patient-journey continuity across acute, sub-acute, and long-term care.

Core Responsibilities • Conduct clinical review of healthcare technologies impacting surgical workflows, triage logic, specialty care coordination, rehabilitation continuity, and remote recovery support. • Validate clinical claims, safety frameworks, regulatory considerations, adoption feasibility, real-world usability, and patient adherence assumptions. • Support due diligence by assessing scalability, payer alignment, episode-based care impacts, utilization risk, and appropriateness of patient pathways. • Advise portfolio companies on peri-operative coordination, remote follow-up logic, rehab integration, pain-management safety, and interdisciplinary communication with PT, primary care, sports medicine, and pain specialists. • Collaborate with other specialty advisors to evaluate comorbid conditions, imaging dependencies, diagnostic accuracy, and escalation protocols. • Identify emerging cross-sector trends in AI-supported clinical decision assistance, hybrid recovery models, predictive risk scoring, virtual specialty consults, and home-based post-acute care.

Ideal Qualifications • Board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon with experience in trauma, sports medicine, joint reconstruction, spine, or general musculoskeletal surgical care. • Familiarity with post-acute recovery norms, DME utilization pathways, pain-safety standards, return-to-function timelines, and procedural appropriateness frameworks. • Experience with digital health, virtual follow-up workflows, remote care models, predictive analytics, or rehabilitation technology (recommended but not required). • Ability to translate surgical and functional-recovery realities into investment criteria, clinical risk assessment, and commercialization feasibility. • Interest in innovation, care-delivery evolution, and the venture ecosystem shaping next-generation patient recovery and specialty alignment.

Why Join the Advisor Group • Influence how technology reshapes surgical recovery, specialty care integration, and mobility outcomes across diverse clinical environments. • Collaborate with multi-specialty peers to guide investment decisions affecting national care-delivery pathways. • Flexible role compatible with active surgical practice, academic appointments, or leadership duties. • Carried interest participation tied to fund performance and portfolio success. • Direct engagement with founders, clinical product teams, AI designers, and health-system executives modernizing care-delivery architecture. Engagement Structure & Benefits • Carried interest eligibility and advisory compensation structure. • Participation in diligence cycles, product evaluation, and strategic innovation sessions. • Remote, selective engagement based on specialty applicability and deal volume. • Access to curated innovation spanning virtual care operations, care-navigation intelligence, predictive analytics, and integrated specialty platforms.
