Healthcare Shares Overview
Healthcare Shares is a healthcare venture capital fund investing broadly in social-impact healthcare startups. We are forming a cohort of Neurosurgeon Advisors within our multidisciplinary clinical network to ensure that investment decisions reflect real-world neurosurgical complexity, operative safety requirements, neuro-critical escalation patterns, and scalable pathways for high-acuity and spine/brain interventions.
Role Overview Neurosurgeon Advisors will support the investment diligence process by evaluating startups through the lens of operative feasibility, neurological risk, imaging accuracy, neuro-monitoring fidelity, recovery trajectory prediction, and post-operative continuity. While our investment scope is broad, neurosurgery provides essential perspective on brain–spine decision thresholds, intra-operative navigation precision, neurotrauma triage, tumor/vascular risk logic, robotics integration, and ICU-to-rehab coordination.
Core Responsibilities • Conduct clinical review of technologies impacting neurosurgical workflows, intra-operative visualization, navigation systems, robotic assistance, spine optimization, and neuro-oncology platforms. • Evaluate safety claims, neuro-monitoring integrity, imaging specificity/sensitivity, device durability, and peri-operative escalation protocols. • Support diligence by assessing scalability across trauma centers, academic neurosurgery programs, ambulatory spine settings, and neuro-intensive environments. • Advise portfolio companies on neurovascular risk pathways, spine biomechanics, tumor-margin precision, ICP management workflows, and neuro-recovery metrics. • Collaborate with anesthesiology, neurology, critical care, orthopedic spine, rehab medicine, and radiology advisors to review cross-discipline acuity timing and handoff reliability. • Track emerging trends in neurosurgical robotics, AR/VR-guided navigation, brain–computer interfaces, neuro-digital therapeutics, remote post-op neuro monitoring, and AI predictive surgical planning.
Ideal Qualifications • Board-certified Neurosurgeon with experience in brain tumors, neurotrauma, spine surgery, vascular malformations, epilepsy surgery, functional neurosurgery, or neuro-critical care. • Familiarity with imaging-based intervention planning, navigation and robotics platforms, ICU neuro-monitoring, and long-term neurologic outcome tracking. • Experience with digital surgical platforms, VR planning systems, robotics integration, neuro-monitoring analytics, or tele-neurosurgery triage (preferred but not required). • Ability to translate operative constraints and neurologic risk thresholds into investment evaluation, safety review, and institutional adoption feasibility. • Commitment to innovation that enhances neurologic outcomes, patient safety, and recovery equity.
Why Join the Advisor Group • Influence how innovation shapes neurosurgical precision, neurotrauma response, spine optimization, tumor resection safety, and critical-care recovery nationwide. • Collaborate with multi-specialty clinical peers guiding social-impact healthcare investment decisions. • Flexible role designed to complement operative schedules, academic neurosurgery commitments, and neurosurgical leadership roles. • Carried interest participation tied to fund performance. • Direct engagement with founders building next-generation neurosurgical platforms and neuro-recovery technologies.
Engagement Structure & Benefits • Carried interest eligibility and advisory compensation structure. • Participation in diligence cycles, neurosurgical technology evaluations, and peri-operative safety reviews. • Remote, selective engagement based on specialty relevance and deal flow. • Access to mission-driven startups improving neurosurgical access, precision, neurotrauma stabilization, and long-term brain/spine outcomes.
