Neal, Gerber & Eisenberg LLP is a mid-size Chicago Loop law firm in search of an Applications Engineer for their IT Department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Build and manage all desktop and laptop images. Build and modify packages and images for the newest desktop and laptop Operating Systems.
Package and deploy security and application updates, upgrades, and new applications to laptops and VDI desktops.
Build and maintain scripts developed in .NET, VBA, or batch files to deploy software packages and/or updates to PC environment.
Install, support and maintain different versions of desktop applications including Microsoft Office and Office related integrated applications and add ins.
Conduct license audits using SCCM, Intune, or other tools available.
Work with Integration Engineer and Desktop Engineer on support and development of the Firm’s front-end applications.
Train and support users and/or trainers on specialized software products for use in various Firm administrative and practice groups.
Manage Active Directory GPO’s related to the desktop for user and computer policies.
Author and maintain technical and user facing documentation necessary to install and support all Firm desktop applications.
Under the supervision of the Application Development Manager, participate in development, planning and deployment of new technologies.
Work on special projects as assigned by Application Development Manager and Director of IT.
Make recommendations to Application Development Manager and Director of IT on procedural and technology changes that would improve existing workflow and/or utilization of the computer systems.
Provide level 3 technical support to help desk personnel on all Firm’s desktop software. Resolve escalated help desk tickets and effectively communicate with vendors to resolve issues when necessary.
Together with the Infrastructure Engineer, manage desktop pools within VMWare Horizon View.
Due to the nature of this position, on call and after-hours availability is necessary to perform this role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar and at least two years’ experience in Microsoft Windows Desktop Administration.
Must have 3+ years’ experience providing technical support in a professional services firm environment; law firm experience preferred.
Must have 3+ years’ experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or equivalent. Must have 2+ years’ experience with basic scripting .NET, VBA, and/or Powershell.
Experience with Azure AD and Intune is preferred.
Knowledge of legal specific desktop applications preferred.
Experience with document management and automation applications such as iManage and Litera Create is preferred.
Experience building agents for GenAI tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT is preferred.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and 3rd party add-on configuration and integration.
Experience with building and maintaining group policies.
Experience managing virtual environments preferred.
Knowledge of basic networking technologies and topologies required.
Ability to express ideas clearly in both oral and written communication.
Ability to create and maintain technical documentation.
Ability to communicate efficiently with end users over the phone.
Ability to provide one on one training for the law firm specific applications.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
Available 35 hours per week, variable (M-F).
