Sr. Database Architect - Hybrid
Fieldpiece Instruments Location: Irvine, CA About Fieldpiece Instruments
Fieldpiece Instruments has been designing rugged, precision tools for HVAC/R professionals since 1990, pushing the envelope of innovation. Our mission is to make the job of every technician easier, faster, and better. We’re a highly collaborative, mission‑driven team that values craftsmanship, shared ownership, and customer‑first thinking. Role Summary
We’re hiring a Sr. Database Architect to build the foundation for our product and customer data, creating the vision and long‑term data architecture strategy for how the data will connect, scale, and serve. Your work will power major digital and IoT initiatives that drive business transformation in a 24/7 environment. This role uniquely combines strategic thinking, technical hands‑on execution, and cross‑functional collaboration. What You'll Do
Own and evolve our database architecture roadmap with an eye toward scalability, interoperability, and future growth. Define both logical and physical data models to support real‑time ingestion, transactional workloads, analytics, and reporting. Create data standards, schemas, and taxonomies that align across business units. Serve as the go‑to database expert within Engineering, partnering with Product, Finance, Commercial, and operational teams. Design and build data pipelines to connect digital/IoT data with ERP, CRM, and finance systems. Specify synchronization logic, API‑based integrations, and event‑driven flows to ensure data consistency. Ensure compatibility and seamless data flow across our cloud and on‑prem systems. Define data governance frameworks and access control aligned to our security and privacy policies. Drive implementation of data lineage, retention, and auditability tools. Ensure compliance with regulations like GDPR, CCPA, and internal cybersecurity and privacy standards. Collaborate with security teams to enforce encryption, key management, backups, and disaster recovery. Lead performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and caching strategies to scale efficiently and ensure 24/7 availability and 99% uptime. Evaluate and select database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, Snowflake, MongoDB, MySQL) to meet future needs. Build automated deployments (CI/CD) for schema versioning, environment provisioning, and repeatable provisioning. Introduce monitoring, observability, and alerting to proactively detect performance issues. Build strong partnerships with data owners across business units to ensure shared governance and cohesive change management. Communicate complex data architecture strategies clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. What You Bring
Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field; Master’s degree preferred. 12+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture, covering both OLTP and OLAP systems. Proven track record designing data architectures spanning multiple business domains (e.g., Digital, Finance, Commercial). Deep expertise in data modeling, schema design, and integrations across relational and non‑relational databases. Experience with modern data platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, MongoDB). Familiarity with ETL/ELT and orchestration tools, such as Airflow, dbt, Kafka, or MuleSoft.
