Job Summary
Full time; 9:00 am–5:30 pm, Monday–Friday
Call required
BLS (American Heart Association) required
1+ year of Anesthesia Tech experience preferred
This position is located at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital and is responsible for assisting the anesthesiologist in the operating room.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED, preferred; successful completion of the hospital‑specific orientation program.
Licenses/Certifications:
None required.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Minimum of one (1) year current Operating Room experience.
Principal Accountabilities
Assist anesthesiologists as directed, performing duties according to the age/needs of the patient/patient population served.
Prepare anesthesia machine and cart with required supplies prior to each case; assist in maintaining anesthesia and monitoring equipment/ancillary devices, warmers (fluid & patient), accuracy and/or the adjustment or exchange of monitors, ventilators and gas cylinders as indicated.
Recognize specialty needs and anticipate preparation and follow‑up (e.g., CJD, MH, Airborne‑TB, Latex sensitivity, Laser cases).
Assist with endotracheal intubation and extubation procedures during routine and emergency procedures.
Perform inventory; order and restock anesthesia medications, trays and supplies; restock anesthesia carts according to established protocol; clean and restock anesthesia machines, cart, supply rooms, shelves, and refrigerators as required; transport anesthesia equipment/supplies to other departments as needed.
Ensure clean‑to‑dirty sanitation/containment and standard infection control precautions, including vigilant sterile technique, and care with invasive lines; facilitate/assist anesthesiologist in following CDC guidelines for Central Line Placement to deter CRBSI; disinfect and high‑level disinfect semi‑critical items and flexible scopes and specialty instrumentation.
Actively participate in Quality Assurance and associated documentation.
Perform additional duties as patient care dictates, such as patient hair removal, blood product & blood cooler transport, patient transport, anesthetized patient positioning within national safety goals and MHHS RED Rules and Surgical Safety Checklist.
Ensure safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department‑based goals that contribute to the organization’s success; serve as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
