Power Utility / Substation Engineering
industry. Qualified candidates must have experience supporting or leading substation engineering project teams, including developing General Arrangements, Equipment Plans, Control House Layouts, Grounding design, conduit and cable design, and creating Bills of Materials and Cable schedules. Job Description The Substation Engineer will work on a variety of Power Grid Utility and Substation Engineering projects. Responsibilities include:
Work within a multi-discipline team to develop and/or review electrical design packages for medium and high voltage substations.
Lead substation physical electrical design including site and equipment layouts, elevations, buswork, ground grids, lightning shielding, and material lists.
Perform design studies and demonstrate working knowledge of physical electrical substation design.
Coordinate design activities to maintain project schedules, budget, and quality requirements.
Assist in site visits, station walkdowns, estimating, and project meetings.
Ensure design activities comply with applicable codes and standards, including Safety, Environmental, QA/QC.
Select equipment and prepare specifications for materials, equipment, and construction work.
Deliver accurate and thorough electrical designs that meet industry standards and prudent engineering practices.
Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability.
Provide construction support including resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections.
Maintain complete project documentation for engineering studies, design packages, as-builts, and return data information.
Mentor and guide developing engineers within the department.
Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in substation engineering for intermediate-level positions.
Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred for all positions; required for Senior positions.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Microstation.
Prior utility consulting experience is a plus.
Strong client focus and customer service skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including strong written and oral English.
Knowledge of applicable industry standards including NEC, NESC, and IEEE.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, providing project ownership.
