The

Nursing Director of Inpatient Services

provides leadership and strategic direction for all nursing operations within assigned inpatient care units, including

Medical‑Surgical (MedSurg) ,

Progressive Care Unit (PCU) , and

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) .

This role partners closely with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to ensure delivery of high‑quality, safe, and patient‑centered care while maintaining regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and efficient resource utilization.

The Director assumes

24/7 accountability

for the operations, staffing, and performance outcomes of designated clinical units and serves as a

mentor, advocate, and role model

for professional nursing practice and standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide operational and clinical leadership for inpatient nursing units (MedSurg, PCU, ICU).

Collaborate with the CNO to develop and implement nursing standards, quality initiatives, and patient care policies.

Oversee staffing, scheduling, and productivity to ensure safe patient ratios and efficient operations.

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as patient satisfaction, clinical outcomes, and staff engagement.

Foster a culture of accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement.

Lead initiatives to improve patient safety, quality metrics, and evidence‑based nursing practice.

Partner with multidisciplinary leaders (medical, ancillary, and administrative teams) to achieve organizational goals.

Manage budget planning, cost control, and resource allocation for inpatient departments.

Ensure compliance with all hospital, state, and federal regulatory standards.

Support recruitment, training, and retention of nursing staff.

Serve as a liaison between nursing leadership and clinical staff to promote transparency and collaboration.

Required Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Required

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) – Required

Experience:

Minimum of

2+ years of progressive nursing leadership

experience in an acute care hospital setting (Manager or Director level).

Strong

Med‑Surg

background or prior experience required.

Demonstrated success in managing inpatient clinical operations and nursing teams.

Licensure / Certifications:

Active and

unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license

in the state of practice/residence.

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)

certification required.

Proven leadership and team‑building ability.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and critical‑thinking skills.

Strong understanding of hospital operations, budget management, and performance improvement methodologies.

Ability to mentor and inspire professional nursing staff.
