The Senior Pharmacist is an advanced practitioner in a specialized area of pharmacy practice, providing drug therapy and pharmacological consultation on the most complex patients and overseeing the competency level of other pharmacy staff in their designated specialty. In addition, the incumbent is responsible to manage drug costs in his or her designated therapeutic area(s) and to facilitate cost containment: a) collects and presents data to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee on the use of P&T restricted medications, b) works with the P&T Coordinator to develop and conduct drug use evaluations, c) works with the clinical coordinator in managing drug costs. The senior pharmacist will also participate in medical staff committees as requested and be a liaison to the Clinical Pharmacology Consult Service. The Senior Pharmacist also participates in general clinical patient care activities and provides support to various pharmacy areas as needed. Their responsibility is to provide quality and cost effective pharmaceutical care to patients, employees and medical staff of UCDMC. They are an integral member of the health care team, responsible for drug therapy monitoring, drug distribution, drug information, precepting pharmacy students and residents, conducting clinical research, participation in Department and Hospital Committees, task forces and workgroups, and foster excellent inter-departmental relationships.

Minimum Qualifications
California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD)
Completion of ASHP Accredited PGY-1 Residency AND at least 3 years experience in relevant area (Critical Care)
Educational experience and ability to work with and direct health care professionals
Educational experience and ability to work with, direct and evaluate pharmacy residents and students
Ability to communicate well and make independent decisions
Preferred Qualifications
Pharmacy Specialty Board Certification (e.g. BCCCP, BCPS, etc.)

The Department of Pharmacy is a dynamic, integral, and critical part of patient care provided by UC Davis Health. As a department of greater than 600 professional, technical, and administrative support personnel, we focus on providing patient-centered medication management that optimizes outcomes through practice, education, research, and leadership through the continuum of care. We also have the largest pharmacy residency program in the country with 46 total residents in 13 different programs.
The Department of Pharmacy offers comprehensive pharmaceutical services (unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical services, infusion pumps, and teaching) throughout the health system complex 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pharmacy services encompass inpatient pharmacy services as well as an expansive footprint in the ambulatory care space where we have clinical pharmacists embedded within our clinics and specialty care locations. Our operational teams support the health system enterprise with three inpatient pharmacies, five outpatient pharmacies, two infusion pharmacies, a home infusion service line, and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores, and distribution.
