The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing breast cancer screening and ensuring quality control (QC) in the imaging process. They work closely with radiologists and other healthcare professionals to accurately capture and interpret breast images for early detection of breast cancer. Their primary duties include positioning patients, operating mammography equipment, maintaining patient records, and providing compassionate care to patients during the screening process.

They are also responsible for maintaining and calibrating equipment to ensure accurate and high-quality images and adhere to safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)

American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR

Valid CRT (M) CA Mammography State License

ARRT Mammography Credential

Up to date on State requirements for Mammography Performance

Digital 8-hour 2D and 3D certificate

No minimum education required

No minimum work experience required

Comprehensive understanding of essential Mammography imaging and knowledge of Radiology equipment, supplies, and drugs

Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to operate radiographic and auxiliary equipment to produce a quality product

Physical ability to perform all functions of a mammography technologist

Skill to prioritize workload for timely work volume

Demonstrates responsibility and dependability (attendance, punctuality, positive attitude, initiation of duties, equipment maintenance, etc.)

Knowledge and proper body mechanics when lifting and transporting patients

Ability to assist patients with limited mobility or special needs

Flexibility to assist with mammography services at various locations and maneuver portable equipment in tight spaces

Ability to move between hospital and satellite locations as needed

Knowledge of health system and departmental policies and procedures

Communicates instructions and information appropriately

Manages health system electronic resources while maintaining patient privacy and HIPAA compliance

Complete working knowledge of patient care practices, principles, and techniques related to area of expertise

Written and oral communication skills to provide clear information to patients and others

Interpersonal skills to maintain a friendly, welcoming, compassionate environment

Ability to maintain composure and efficiency during peak workload or challenging patient interactions

Problem‑solving skills to define and resolve problems independently

Decision‑making skills to exercise delegated authority and seek assistance when limits are reached

Discretion to ensure patient confidentiality and a respectful clinic environment

Flexibility with schedule changes to meet patient care or department needs

A.S. in Radiologic Science/Radiologic Technology

1 year of experience in mammography
