Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, Lead Audit Counsel
Join KPMG US in the role of Managing Director and Associate General Counsel, Lead Audit Counsel. The position is part of the Office of the General Counsel and focuses on leading legal strategy and oversight for the Audit and Assurance Practice.
Responsibilities
Serve as a primary OGC contact for leadership of the Audit and Assurance Practice on legal and regulatory matters relating to the provision of professional services; advise the other two professional service functions (Tax and Advisory) regarding similar matters as needed, including the resolution of potential disputes.
Organize the work of the Practice Advisory Group to support the Audit and Assurance Practice.
Stay current on legal and regulatory developments impacting the audit profession and advise the Practice of such developments.
Support the development of comment letters and guidance for the Audit and Assurance Practice.
Provide strategic counsel on complex legal issues, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and maintain the highest ethical standards and integrity.
Build strong business partnerships, drive collaboration across cross‑functional teams, and influence stakeholders.
Identify opportunities for enhancement and innovation, including leveraging technology.
Qualifications
Minimum of 15 years of experience at a well‑regarded law firm, government agency, or in‑house legal department.
JD or LLM from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in the U.S., including the state where the office is located.
Deep experience with civil litigation and regulatory investigations related to audits of public and private companies, and training or advising of the profession on legal and regulatory matters.
Knowledge of securities laws, rules and regulations that relate to the audit profession.
Strategic thinking, ability to manage multiple projects with high‑quality deliverables, and strong ethical standards.
Demonstrated collaboration skills, building strong relationships, and client‑service orientation across cross‑functional teams.
Leadership strengths, emotional intelligence, and the ability to navigate ambiguity and influence stakeholders.
Proactive mindset to identify challenges, opportunities, and innovations.
Salary Range (California) $402,000 – $880,000
