Walmart’s Runtime Platform Core Services – PRISM team seeks a Distinguished Software Engineer to lead cutting‑edge technology initiatives for AgenticAI and Unified Identity. The role will drive runtime platform support, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate across disciplines. Minimal travel is required (twice a year).

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and elevate high‑performing engineering teams, fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

Provide deep technical expertise in Identity and Access Management (IAM), AgenticAI runtime support, and microservices (ServiceMesh, etc.) and stay current with emerging agent technologies.

Facilitate communication and collaboration across teams and stakeholders, acting as liaison between engineering and business functions.

Improve development practices, including planning, architecture, documentation, and testing.

Own design, development, and delivery of core runtime platform support for agents and MCP servers, covering identity, authentication, authorization, policy enforcement, and routing with product managers and business partners.

By 3 months, establish relationships with key contributors, understand existing components, and begin driving architecture and planning for upcoming projects.

By 6–12 months, lead at least three key initiatives from architecture to design, building relationships across Walmart global tech.

Qualifications

Proven leadership in backend development with recent hands‑on experience.

Strong experience in IAM and microservices, and industry knowledge of products such as Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Ping Identity, Envoy, Istio, etc.

Experience working with Kubernetes and public clouds (Azure, GCP, etc.).

Ability to drive sub‑groups, approve solutions, innovate architectural patterns, and conduct design and code reviews.

Full ownership at the module and product level.

Mastery of at least one language among Java, C++, Golang, Rust, Python, Scala, ReactJS, Node.js.

Extensive experience with network protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, TCP, UDP, TLS/mTLS, etc.) and databases (Relational, NoSQL, Document).

Proven track record of building high‑availability, enterprise‑scale applications.

Champion business objectives through collaboration with partners, addressing high‑priority initiatives and orchestrating cross‑functional partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field and 6 years’ experience in software engineering.

Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field and 4 years’ experience in software engineering.

Experience creating inclusive digital experiences, knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating accessibility into products.
