Associate Attorney
A mid‑size Chicago‑based law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to support our expanding general litigation practice in Cook County. Our firm also handles a wide range of civil litigation matters, including general liability, commercial disputes, product liability, professional liability, and other complex litigation. Position Overview This role offers significant hands‑on litigation experience for attorneys with a strong foundation in civil litigation. The ideal candidate will have experience managing cases, drafting and arguing substantive motions, conducting depositions, and appearing in court. We seek attorneys who are strategic thinkers, highly organized, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
Primary Responsibilities
Independently manage a diverse litigation caseload from inception through resolution.
Draft, review, and respond to pleadings, motions, and discovery.
Conduct fact and expert depositions.
Prepare and argue motions in local court.
Assist with trial strategy, preparation, and courtroom support.
Investigate case facts, assess exposure, and develop case strategies.
Prepare witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trial.
Attend court hearings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
Maintain organized case files and accurate time records.
Candidate Requirements
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
4–8 years of general litigation experience (in Cook County is strongly preferred).
Environmental litigation experience is a plus.
Admission to the Illinois Bar.
Demonstrated experience with depositions and motion practice.
Prior lead experience in significant depositions, hearings, or case management preferred.
Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines independently.
Strong communication skills and a client‑focused work style.
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and efficient.
Compensation and Benefits Overview Pay range: $125,000–$175,000 (DOE). Bonus opportunities and other forms of compensation may be offered, contributing to a comprehensive total rewards package. Eligible employees may also receive additional benefits, which may differ by location.
