About the Department Founded in 1969, the Department of Respiratory Therapy at Georgia State has developed into a nationally acclaimed graduate and undergraduate program. A nationwide survey conducted by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio ranked our program first among all respiratory therapy programs in the country. Faculty in our program integrate critical thinking and simulation into teaching and research to provide students with the opportunity to excel in the profession. Our location in downtown Atlanta provides students with opportunities to conduct clinical practice at leading healthcare institutions, including Grady Memorial Hospital, Emory Healthcare, Northside Hospital, Piedmont Hospital, and Wellstar Health Systems.

Position Description The Department of Respiratory Therapy invites applications for a 9‑month tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Applicants will develop or advance a focused program of funded research and teaching in the graduate program. Possible courses include Research Methods and Statistics. Other responsibilities include student advisement and mentoring, and service to the department and university.

Required Experience For Associate Professor rank: At least 7 years of prior academic experience with a strong record of research productivity, including publications in top‑tier journals and successful grantsmanship.

Required Education PhD, ScD, EdD, or equivalent research doctoral degree in Health Sciences or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRT)

Prior teaching and clinical experience

At least 2 years of clinical and/or didactic teaching experience

Experience with publications and scientific presentations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong oral and written communication skills

Proficiency in diverse instructional methods

Excellent organizational and technological skills

Attention to detail and demonstrated expertise in instructional technology

Ability to work independently and collaboratively

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations Respiratory Therapy candidates must be eligible for licensure in Georgia.

Pre‑Employment Requirements A criminal background check and official transcripts are required.

Flexible Schedule

University Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday; 8:30 am – 5:15 pm

Salary Salary is competitive and is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
