What to Expect
Tesla's Electromechanical and High Voltage Electronics Supplier Industrialization team is responsible for complex electrical and electromechanical assembly process development, industrialization, and qualification at suppliers.
We are seeking a subject matter expert to lead the technical industrialization of our innovative rope systems. This is a pivotal role that bridges the gap between design, materials science, and high-volume manufacturing. You will be a critical collaborator influencing the design for manufacturability to ensure it is mature, testable, and manufacturable from the outset. You will use your expertise in advanced fibers and rope engineering to characterize proposed designs, identify performance gaps, develop the process and collaborate with the Design team and external suppliers to deliver a robust, achievable solution.
What You'll Do
Serve as the lead technical expert within the SIE organization for advanced fiber and high-performance synthetic fiber ropes manufacturing processes
Use empirical data to collaborate with the Design team, driving changes that result in a mature, achievable, and manufacturable specification
Create the comprehensive technical package with suppliers, including material specifications, construction details, critical-to-quality (CTQ) parameters, and required test procedures
Identify, evaluate, and lead the technical development of world-class suppliers for high-performance synthetic ropes (e.g., UHMWPE, Aramid, etc.)
Drive supplier process development, including material selection, braiding/twisting parameters, coating application, treatment and curing, in-line inspections, and end-of-line testing
Communicate project status, risks, and technical recommendations clearly and consistently to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders in a structured manner
What You'll Bring
Degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Textile Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
Demonstrated proficiency in statistical analysis and tools such as JMP or Minitab
Demonstrated experience in a supplier-facing technical role
Experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Supplier Industrialization Engineer working with complex materials or components
Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) methodologies
Self-motivated and the ability to work independently, hands on and ready to work in a fast-paced environment
Domestic and international travel (expected 30% of the time) is required to engage with CMs, sometimes on short notice

Expected Compensation $85,760 - $197,160/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
