Job Summary The EVS Associate – In Patient performs daily cleaning tasks in patient areas, office, public, and/or other non‑patient areas. This includes daily cleaning, equipment cleaning and project cleaning in an assigned area. The role requires respectful and compassionate communication and interaction with patients, families, and healthcare staff. Duties may include, but are not limited to, working in NICU, PACU, ICU, inpatient units, float team, discharge team, runner, and other EVS associate public responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities
Perform multi‑step cleaning procedures, daily cleaning, discharge cleaning, discharge bed making, operating room cleaning, between‑case cleaning, upholstery, wall, and glass care.
Continue work from previous shifts, report incomplete assignments and maintenance issues.
Perform dry mopping, wet mopping of common areas using appropriate equipment, including floor care machines.
Implement floor and carpet care techniques such as carpet bonneting and extracting.
Respond to stat orders such as discharges, spills, floods, and all hospital‑wide emergency drills.
Clean all organic body waste (blood, feces, sputum, urine).
Clean patient equipment including IV poles, commodes, monitors, cables, specialty equipment, stretchers, wheelchairs, and cardiac chairs.
Assist in moves, special set‑ups, and other occasions as needed.
Collect solid and contaminated waste, seal boxes, and deliver them to designated areas and compactor zone.
Follow department procedures for cleaning solution selection, report low inventory, sign equipment in/out of storage, keep housekeeping cart clean, and report malfunctioning equipment.
Deliver soiled mops, cleaning cloths, and linen to designated areas.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
0–1 year related work experience.
Basic familiarity with computers and web‑based applications.
Competencies
Decision Making – make decisions based on instructions, standard practices, and established procedures with minimal supervision.
Problem Solving – address routine problems, follow procedures, and identify process improvement opportunities.
Independence of Action – follow general instructions and procedures; work monitored by a supervisor/manager.
Technical and Interpersonal Skills Written Communications:
read and write in English to understand safety instructions, take direction from supervisors, communicate with patients, families, and staff, and respond to basic questions.
Oral Communications:
understand spoken English to follow safety instructions, provide basic counseling, and respond to routine questions.
Knowledge:
demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures for routine situations; specialized knowledge not required.
Team Work:
interact respectfully with employees, professional staff, and external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information, or deliver services.
Customer Service:
maintain a positive attitude and respond to requests promptly and respectfully.
Physical Nature of the Job Medium physical work: occasional exertion of up to 50 lb and frequent exertion up to 20 lb. The job requires standing and moving throughout the majority of the shift.
Pay Range $17.00 - $22.88 per hour (base hourly wage). Compensation may exceed the base rate based on seniority, education, training, experience, certification, location, shift differentials, and other legally permissible factors.
Vaccination Requirement All staff must be vaccinated against influenza (flu) as a condition of employment.
