Family Birth Center Nursing Director
This highly recognized, award‑winning health system is recruiting a Family Birth Center Nursing Director in Northern California to lead a high‑impact perinatal service line. An experienced Women’s and Children’s Services RN Leader who is inspired by clinical excellence, operational precision, and meaningful patient experience will find a compelling next step here.
Within a modern 300‑bed hospital, the Family Birth Center Nursing Director will guide a trusted maternity program known for patient safety, evidence‑based practice, and collaborative physician partnerships. This acute‑care campus maintains strong accreditation standings, participates in regional perinatal quality collaboratives, and invests in innovation that elevates outcomes across the continuum for mothers, newborns, and families.
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Executive, the Family Birth Center Nursing Director will oversee unit‑based leaders including an RN Manager Obstetrics for Labor & Delivery, Assistant Nurse Managers, Perinatal Educators, and Lactation leadership, with talented charge nurses and specialty staff as key extensions. The Nursing Director partnerships span the OB/GYN Medical Director, Anesthesia, Neonatology, Quality/Risk, Finance, HR, and Staffing.
Leading a busy department that sees around 3,000 births annually, the Women’s and Children’s Health Nursing Director will support a vibrant, family‑centered service that includes labor and delivery with dedicated C‑section ORs, antepartum/triage, mother‑baby/postpartum, lactation services, and a special care nursery. The FBC Nursing Director’s stewardship extends to 24/7 operations with 120+ interdisciplinary FTEs known for teamwork, high reliability, and compassionate care in a fast‑paced yet supportive environment alongside exceptional physicians and perinatal professionals.
As the clinical and administrative anchor, the Family Birth Center Nursing Director drives education, competency, and practice standards (AWHONN fetal monitoring, perinatal safety bundles, OB hemorrhage and hypertension drills), while championing quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory readiness. Administrative responsibilities include budget leadership, workforce planning, throughput, staffing models, and data‑informed decision‑making; collaboration with physicians and allied teams; and cultivating talent pipelines—valuing RNC‑OB and Obstetrics Certification among emerging and established Women’s and Children’s Health Nursing Director leaders.
Life in this thriving coastal‑tech corridor offers mild weather year‑round, access to redwood trails and beaches, farmers markets, and day trips to wine country and national parks. Top public and private schools, major universities, world‑class arts, pro sports, and a dynamic food scene create a rich tapestry of culture and opportunity. A robust economy and career ecosystem reward ambition, while diverse neighborhoods and outdoor recreation make downtime restorative.
