The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to ensure efficient and effective reprocessing, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role involves supervising staff, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, and collaborating with other departments to support patient care and safety.

Minimum Qualifications
Base Certification: CRCST from HSPA or CSPDT from CBSPD
Advanced Certification (within 6 months of hire) – CET, CSIS, CER, CFER, CHL, or CSPM
Maintain certification by completing CEUs and renewing as required
High School diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience or training
At least five (5) years recent experience in a similar Central Processing Unit setting
Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience adhering to AAMI recommended practices
Knowledge of AORN recommended practices in instrument care, cleaning, packaging, surgical attire, traffic patterns, and OR sanitation
Strong attention to detail and thoroughness to complete work timely and accurately
Independent critical thinking skills and initiative to recognize, identify, and solve problems with potential impact
Experience using Central Processing Unit programs and computers (tracking, email, spreadsheets, word processing)
Ability to apply policy and procedure when making decisions
Problem identification, analysis, and timely reporting
Ability to exercise sound judgment and recognize situations that need escalation
Assist in planning and organizing workflow to meet established turnaround times and deadlines
Prioritize work to meet turnaround times and administrative deadlines
Develop creative solutions to problems in a self‑motivated manner aligned with project team and organization direction
Maintain satisfactory performance level
Self‑motivation and ability to work independently on tasks or projects as instructed

Department Overview Sterile Processing supports 40+ operating rooms by cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing surgical instrumentation, scopes, and case cart assembly. The Central Processing Department also provides reusable equipment cleaning and disinfection for ambulatory services, primary care, ICU, and emergency crash carts.
