Senior Mechanical Engineer – Advanced Airframes Join Raytheon as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Advanced Airframes Department located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

Work across engineering groups to propose, design, develop, integrate, and test hardware within the Advanced Airframes mechanical design department.

Provide technical ownership and execution of tasks; serve as prime technical contact for complex problems related to design, manufacture, and integration of mechanical sub‑systems.

Perform and review tolerance analysis to ensure form, fit, and function meet design intent.

Improve new and existing designs using DFMA and Design for Producibility principles.

Communicate across engineering teams and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the design technical data package (TDP) and its compliance to requirements.

Work autonomously, acting as responsible engineer and, when applicable, in a project‑management role over entire subsystems.

What You Will Learn

Lead small teams in completing the above tasks.

Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and reviewing work.

Collaborate with supply chain, operations, quality, systems, analysis, and electrical disciplines.

Qualifications You Must Have

Bachelor’s degree in STEM and a minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test (preferably defense‑related).

Experience in airframe development, electronics packaging, or mechanisms for missiles or similar applications.

Proficiency with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and drawing practices.

Experience with CAD design tools and best practices.

Qualifications We Prefer

Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or related discipline.

8+ years of experience in mechanical design, development, and/or test of defense components.

DoD Secret or Top‑Secret clearance.

CAD experience in Creo Parametric and Windchill.

Thermal/structural analysis experience or collaboration with analysts.

Strong written and verbal communication; ability to conduct trade studies and present to program management.

Supplier interaction and management experience; willingness to travel up to 10 %.

Benefits Salary range: $82,000 − $164,000. Eligible for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, paid time off, and holidays. Additional benefits and incentive compensation may apply.
