Work Week Daily after school for practices and games

Position Summary White Bear Lake Area Schools seeks a dynamic candidate for the position of Head Coach - Varsity Boys Cross Country. This position will be responsible for all aspects of a comprehensive program for grades 9-12. The candidate must be able to clearly articulate the values the student-athlete will be expected to develop as a participant of the program, this includes sportsmanship, collaboration, teamwork, relationship development, punctuality, leadership, and life balance

Education and Experience Bachelor's degree preferred as well as previous track and field coaching experience at the club, high school, and/or collegiate level

Essential Functions

Working partnership with the Director of Athletics and Activities in the hiring of coaches for all levels of the program

Work with the Director of Athletics and Activities in scheduling facilities for practices, events, and competitions

Hold organizational meetings for returning and new team members and encourage student participation

Assess skills of student-athletes and determines team selections, in partnership with other coaches

Schedules and organizes regular practice schedules to provide both individual and team development at all levels

Coach and instruct students, individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, techniques, and tactics of the game

Observe students, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual and/or team improvement

Establish and maintain standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision of team members at all times

Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met

Follow established procedures in the event of an injury

Clear communication with parents/guardians providing program information

Follow state, sectional, and school district bylaws and policies as it pertains to governance of the program

Model sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials, and spectators set forth by the standards of the MSHSL and White Bear Lake Area Schools

Works in partnership with the Athletics/Activities office to follow established procedures for travel, supplies, and uniforms

Works in partnership with the Athletics/Activities office to develop a policy for end of season awards

Participate in special activities to include Parents’ Night, Senior Night, Open House, student orientations, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies as deemed necessary by the Director of Athletics and Activities

Work in partnership with the Middle School Track and Field Programs to grow the game and increase participation

Work in partnership with the WBL Boys Track and Field Booster Club to enhance the experience for the student-athletes

Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities while creating a welcoming environment for coaches and student-athletes at all levels

Ensure adherence toward the required MSHSL training and education for self and each member of the coaching staff

Provide opportunities for student-athlete participation in off-season clinics, camps, and program activities

Reports To Boys Cross Country head coach reports directly to the high school Director of Athletics and Activities, Brian Peloquin
