Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Senior Accountant for a mission-driven, community-focused organization. This is a full-time, contract (with potential for conversion) hybrid role based in San Francisco.

Position Overview This Senior Accountant role provides essential leadership and hands‑on accounting support to ensure strong financial stewardship within a values-driven organization. The position partners closely with internal teams to maintain accurate financial systems, strengthen internal controls, and support transparent reporting. This role is ideal for a proactive, collaborative accounting professional who enjoys both detailed work and cross‑functional partnership.

Responsibilities

Maintain the general ledger and manage day‑to‑day accounting transactions including payables, receivables, payroll entries, and cash activity.

Lead month‑end close processes, journal entries, and reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Oversee accounts payable and vendor processes, approvals, and compliance with internal policies.

Partner cross‑functionally to reconcile revenue, contributions, and system integrations between financial and donor platforms.

Prepare and support grant, contract, and government invoicing, audits, and external reporting requirements.

Supervise and support Accounting team members while improving workflows and internal controls.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience managing full‑cycle accounting operations in complex or growing environments.

Working knowledge of nonprofit or mission‑driven financial practices and internal controls.

Experience using cloud‑based accounting and financial management systems.

Strong organizational and analytical skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Collaborative communication style and commitment to accuracy, equity, and continuous improvement.

Compensation And Benefits This career opportunity provides a starting hourly pay of $45 to $50.00 DOE with room for further career growth over time, plus medical, dental, vision and voluntary life insurance, an employee assistance plan (EAP), and commuter and transit benefits for those who are working on average 30 or more hours per week.
