Head of E&S Property
Zurich North America (ZNA) is seeking a Head of E&S Property for Zurich E&S, ZNA’s division focused 100% on the wholesale channel. The Head of E&S Property is responsible for the strategy and management of Zurich E&S’s property division, engagement with our wholesale partner’s property brokerage leadership teams, property underwriting execution and quality, product offerings and the overall E&S Property Division profitability. The Head of E&S Property will report to the President of Zurich E&S and will be part of the Zurich E&S Executive Leadership Team. The position will be located in either Atlanta, GA or Chicago, IL.
Responsibilities
Developing and refining underwriting strategy, appetite, and guidelines
Developing the go‑to‑market strategy within the wholesale channel
Executing on profitable growth plans
Underwriting portfolio management
Hiring and developing staffing
Providing input to operations teams to ensure execution and speed to market
Working with technical underwriting and actuarial teams on product development, including coverage forms and pricing models to profitably compete in surplus lines
Managing policy terms and conditions, manuscript processes and manuscript language
Overseeing execution of facultative reinsurance purchases
In executing on these requirements, the position will be required to collaborate within Zurich E&S and within the broader Zurich North America enterprise to leverage ZNA’s extensive knowledge and resources. This position will work closely with Zurich E&S’s Head of Wholesale Distribution in wholesale producer engagement. The position will also work closely with the Zurich E&S Chief Underwriting Officer on underwriting authority, underwriting quality reviews, underwriting guidelines and general portfolio management.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 12 or more years of relevant underwriting, market‑facing, broker, carrier, or risk management experience within the commercial insurance industry AND
5 or more years of management experience
Prior E&S property experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in managing property underwriters in the surplus lines industry
Strong portfolio management skills with demonstrated track record of superior underwriting performance
Excellent management skills, including underwriter coaching, performance management and mentoring
Expertise interpreting and developing property products
Knowledge of property pricing methodologies and market benchmarks
Expertise in catastrophe risk models and a demonstrated capacity to optimize the property catastrophe risk footprint
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and network in a diversified insurance company
Strong knowledge of, and following, within the surplus lines producer network
Ability to lead in producer engagement/sales
Ability to attract and retain a team of E&S property underwriters
Compensation The proposed salary range for this position is $216,100.00 - $378,300.00, with a competitive short‑term incentive bonus. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases.
