Machine Learning Engineer

Position Overview The Machine Learning Engineer works individually and collaboratively on moderate to complex projects using advanced AI and machine learning techniques on biological, genomic, clinical, and healthcare data. This role is involved at every step from ideation and design to implementation and deployment, contributing to the strategic vision for AI at Exact Sciences.
Essential Duties
Keep up with external and internal advances in AI technology.
Collaborate with ML/AI engineers and partners to articulate AI affordances.
Work with stakeholders to discover requirements for ML- and AI-based solutions.
Contribute to the design, implementation, and deployment of AI solutions.
Work in an Agile framework focused on iterative, rapid delivery.
Support the execution of an AI strategy at Exact Sciences.
Contribute to internal initiatives to build training resources and knowledge bases.
Exercise judgment within the company’s practices and policies.
Communicate effectively with peers.
Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
Support Quality Management System policies and procedures.
Maintain reliable attendance and a willingness to travel ≤5% of the time.
Work on a mobile device or computer for ~85% of the typical working day.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. or master’s degree in Statistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field, plus experience outlined in essential duties, or 4 years of experience in lieu of a Ph.D.
Demonstrated knowledge of advanced AI concepts and ML techniques.
Experience with deep learning, reinforcement learning, NLP, computer vision, or image recognition.
Knowledge of large language models for generative AI.
Programming experience in Python and at least one ML framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn).
Knowledge of open‑source AI models.
Ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.
Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
≥1 year of life sciences industry experience with biological data.
Experience in molecular diagnostics, preferably cancer diagnostics.
Expertise in data mining within healthcare settings.
Basic knowledge of MLOps and model deployment processes.
Scientific understanding of cancer biology.
Salary & Benefits Annual base salary range: $112,700 – $192,050, bonus eligible. Benefits include paid time off, parental leave, retirement savings plan, wellness support, and comprehensive health coverage.
