Summary The Director of Sales & Marketing supervises and coordinates the sales operations within the assigned region to optimize sales, promotion, and customer service. This position provides leadership and direction for all sales personnel in the assigned region. This is a full‑time, onsite position located at our Michigan office.
What You'll Be Contributing
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Establish, communicate, and assign job responsibilities, goals, and performance standards for employees within supervisory responsibility.
Evaluate performance and recommend merit increases and promotions.
Affect job performance through motivation, establishing goals, and providing feedback.
Plan and manage the sales of the cement marketed in the assigned region to maximize profitability and increase market share.
Maintain personal contact with key accounts. Participate in hunting and fishing trips as well as other forms of entertainment for customers.
Participate in defining sales territories, changes in marketing policy, promotions, and product revisions.
Approve and control sales expenditures in the assigned region to ensure efficient use of all travel and entertainment expenses.
Prepare and revise sales forecasts as needed.
Maintain awareness of current industry trends and practices by attending professional association meetings, seminars, and educational workshops.
Maintain contact with state and local government officials, industry associates, and other individuals who may provide information regarding promotional developments and opportunities.
Coordinate with management on pricing strategy and prepare price quotation bids for direct work involving cement usage. Prepare direct work sales agreements.
Collaborate with other members of the company to improve marketing, pricing, promotion, customer service, credit, and delivery of Ash Grove products.
Supervise the promotion of cement and concrete products by sales and technical service personnel in the assigned region.
Assist sales personnel with promotions specifically oriented to engineers, architects, owners, various government entities, etc.
Work with Technical Services Manager on a regular basis to resolve customer complaints and other customer service issues.
Appraise and analyze opportunities, competitive conditions, and competitive products in assigned regions. Communicate to Vice President – Commercial regarding these issues.
Develop and maintain sales information and statistics pertaining to the assigned sales territory, including future and current projects, technical information, sales aids, and equipment information.
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To Succeed In This Position, You Will Need
Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
Minimum of 4‑year degree in management, sales, marketing, business administration, or a related field is required.
Cement, concrete or construction industry experience is preferred but not required.
Minimum of 10 years prior experience in progressive sales and/or marketing in cement, ready mix, or related industry required.
Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to make sound independent judgments regularly.
Ability to effectively negotiate.
Ability to lead/manage others.
Knowledge of all aspects of marketing, sales, promotion, distribution, and customer service.
Ability to maintain confidential information with discretion.
Ability to work from general policies and objectives.
Ability to consult with a supervisor when clarification or interpretation of organization policy is needed.
Work Environment
This position is based in an indoor, climate‑controlled office space; travelling in vehicle to customer and CRH sites.
