Role: Level 2 Field Engineer — Fibre & Network Infrastructure
Location: Chicago
Employment Type: Full-Time – remote with travel to site as needed
Package: $75,000 – $80,000 car allowance overtime and on-call bonuses

As a Level 2 Field Engineer, you’ll act as the on-site technical lead, taking responsibility for installing, maintaining, and commissioning complex telecoms infrastructure while supporting junior engineers. This is a hands-on position with a focus on quality delivery, fault resolution, and continuous improvement across live environments.
Key Responsibilities
Leading site-based activities for deployment, upgrades, and maintenance
Providing first-line leadership and mentoring to junior engineers
Installing, terminating, testing and labelling fibre and copper cabling
Completing rack and stack builds, cable management, and containment
Conducting fault diagnosis using OTDR, Ethernet, and OSA test equipment
Installing and verifying AC (240v) and DC (-48v) plug-and-play connections
Managing RAMS and SVSA inspections, ensuring H&S compliance
Producing project documentation and quality audits to required standards
Acting as the escalation point for technical issues during projects
Supporting project managers with on-site planning, updates, and reporting
Participating in out-of-hours on-call rota when required
What You’ll Bring
Proven experience in telecoms field engineering — installations, maintenance & commissioning
Hands-on expertise with:
DWDM, SDH, PDH, Ethernet, IP and VoIP systems
Equipment from Ciena, Infinera, Nokia, Juniper, Cisco
Structured and fibre optic cabling (Cat x, E1, OMx, OSx)
Strong fault-finding and test equipment proficiency (OTDR, Fluke, OSA etc.)
Excellent understanding of industry standards, cabling practices, and H&S requirements
Experience supervising or mentoring other engineers
Strong communication and report writing skills
Full UK driving licence
Ability to work independently across changing field-based environments
Bonus Points For
Certifications such as CNCI, CNIT, COPT, CDCTP, or fibre vendor certifications
Familiarity with ITSM tools, Asset Management Systems, and MS Office
ITIL or service delivery framework knowledge
