Overview Atrius Health is part of the Optum family, delivering effective, connected care for adult and pediatric patients across 28 locations in eastern Massachusetts.

Summary Under direction of the department chief, nurse leader or designee, this registered professional nurse position provides practice management support as well as initiating and/or assisting in the provision of direct patient care to patients, according to established guidelines. The Special Procedure nurse performs a variety of complex tasks which may include assisting in the provision of direct patient care to patients undergoing care in a procedural unit. Delivers specialty specific and/or ambulatory care including pre‑ and post‑procedure assessment and monitoring; IV moderate sedation, chemotherapy, and intra‑procedural care, e.g., GYN Surgery, OMFS (Oral Maximus Facial Surgery), Oncology and GI procedure patients. Provides telephone triage and clinical advice appropriately; coordinates the follow‑up care of patients; practice management support and patient education. Proficiency needed for IV placement, preparation and administration, IM injections, catheterizations, ACLS, BCLS. Attainment of privileges for IV moderate sedation as required by specialty.

Education / Licenses / Certifications

Graduate of a state approved school of nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.

Must participate in IVMS (Intravenous Moderate Sedation) seminar every two years.

Experience Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in medical/surgical or ambulatory nursing required; exceptions in consultation with VP of Nursing. Experience with an electronic medical records system, EPIC preferred.

Skills

Strong critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal and good patient interviewing skills.

Highly motivated and self‑directed.

Ability to interpret clinical information, assess the implication of treatment and develop and implement a plan of care.

Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and work in a rapidly changing environment with multiple demands.

Up‑to‑date with current standard of nursing care in Specialty.

Demonstrated excellence in practice, documentation and utilization.

Maintain high patient satisfaction.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Basic computer skills.

Compensation The hourly range for this role is $43.63 to $81.04 per hour based on full‑time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. Atrius Health complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
