Pharmacy Operations Manager Responsibilities

Accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where state and federal laws allow. Ensures efficient workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.

Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and supervise pharmacy technicians and cashiers within company policies, laws, regulations, and ethics.

Select, schedule, and develop pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management. Make decisions regarding discipline and termination.

Assist pharmacist in patient care: registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification (where allowed). Complete patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision.

Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work within legal guidelines. Ensure tasks are completed on time and maintain efficient workflow.

Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies at the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.

Coordinate daily pharmacy schedule, recommend allocation of hours, and keep the department clean, orderly, and stocked.

Manage inventory preparation and ensure compliance with business administrative activities that do not require pharmacist licensure.

Drive technology/process rollouts, champion change, and engage the team around action planning. Maintain operation and maintenance of equipment.

Adhere to Walgreens policy on Good Faith Dispensing and report prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist.

Process insurance claims accurately, follow up with insurers and providers, and participate in third‑party audits.

Analyze and improve pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service in collaboration with Store and Pharmacy Managers.

Manage Community Outreach Portal, coordinate off‑site immunization clinics, and sustain retail partnership relationships.

Customer Experience

Engage customers by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve complaints promptly and answer non‑clinical questions to ensure a positive experience.

Develop strong relationships by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to enhance the healthcare experience.

People & Performance Management

Lead performance management of technicians, including discipline, suspension, termination, and recommendations.

Hire, onboard, train, and schedule technicians. Monitor timely training completion and follow established policies.

Identify knowledge gaps and support team members through hands‑on training or learning modules.

Ensure all team licensures, registrations, and certifications are active and compliant.

Follow procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training per company and legal requirements.

Training & Personal Development

Maintain PTCB certification through the designated program or required state certification.

Enhance knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare.

Obtain necessary certifications, education credits, and training such as LTMP e‑modules.

Seek professional development, solicit feedback, and use supervisors as mentors.

Communication

Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers.

Participate in store/pharmacy meetings, including 5‑minute check‑ins with the Store Manager.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.

PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).

One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.

Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).

Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).

Preferred Qualifications

Previous people management or leadership experience.

Previous work experience with Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.

$22.50 per hour - $31.00 per hour . The actual hourly salary within this range will depend on geography, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
