We are seeking an experienced critical care medicine APP to work at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, a 600‑bed hospital. Critical Care APPs work autonomously, yet collaboratively with intensive care physicians and a multidisciplinary team to provide emergent and urgent care to patients in critical conditions, including leading Rapid Response and Code Blue teams.
The APP will actively participate in daily rounds, develop and implement evidence‑based plans of care, lead the Code Team, participate in Rapid Response, and provide critical care consultation for unstable patients slated for ICU upgrade on various units throughout the hospital.
Essential Job Duties
Providing emergent and urgent care to patients in critical condition.
Performing histories and physical examinations of patients.
Establishing appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging.
Recommending, initiating, and managing appropriate therapeutic interventions for various pathologies, including respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, and acid‑base disturbances.
Presenting patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team.
Collaborating with all involved care teams, including other consultants.
Performing bedside procedures, including insertion of central venous, A‑Lines, non‑tunneled dialysis, and arterial catheters, as well as chest tubes and thoracentesis.
Communicating between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care.
Educating and supervising new graduate APPs and students where appropriate.
Schedule Full time (130 shifts/year) with 12‑hour night shifts. Night coverage, weekends, and rotating holidays required.
Requirements
Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program.
NCCPA (physician assistant) or AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certification.
BLS and ACLS certifications.
One year of critical care experience or inpatient hospital medicine preferred; ideal candidate will have experience in advanced procedures.
