What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
Review and evaluate hospital outpatient medical record documentation to assign, sequence, edit, and/or validate appropriate ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes
Assign, validate, and/or edit codes for various patient types, including same‑day surgery, observation, and outpatient care
Maintain or exceed established productivity and accuracy standards
Initiate, validate, and/or edit physician queries in compliance with company policy
Stay current with coding guidelines, policies, and clinical/medical resources
What is Required (Qualifications)
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HIM/HIT preferred
3-5 years of experience in acute care observation and/or same-day surgery hospital outpatient coding required
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), NHA CBCS or equivalent coding certification required
Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, HCPCS/CPT-4 coding systems and APCs
Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate clearly and concisely
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
Experience with coding in emergency department, recurring, clinical records, and provider office visits
Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task effectively
Proven track record of building long-term customer relationships
