What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
Review and evaluate hospital outpatient medical record documentation to assign, validate, and edit ICD-10-CM and HCPCS/CPT codes
Assign codes for various patient types including same day surgery, observation, and wound care
Initiate and validate physician queries in compliance with company policy
Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines and data quality standards
Perform other duties as assigned
What is Required (Qualifications):
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in HIM/HIT preferred
3-5 years of experience in acute care observation and/or same day surgery hospital outpatient coding required
Certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, COC, NHA CBCS, or equivalent required
Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, HCPCS/CPT-4 coding
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
Additional coding certifications from recognized organizations
Experience with electronic health record systems
Familiarity with healthcare compliance regulations
